Great retail opportunity

Overall, I’ve had a great experience working at H&M and have been given opportunities for advancement. For anyone interested in working retail -this is a great company to start with. As with all fast fashion corporations there are pros and cons but in general H&M takes care of their employees and the management team is very proactive in getting all staff involved.

No room for advancement

This is a great place to work if you’re looking for a part time student job that pays minimum wage and enjoys call in shifts (like on call shifts but you have to call them 2 hours before your shift to see if you’re working or not, these shifts are common place and will be most of your shifts). Area team will promise promotions and dangle them in front of you for years, asking you to change locations, do manager work without a pay increase and overall treat you like garbage. Management is nice but not very helpful when it comes to problems with customers as they change the rules of the business based on how they feel like responding that day. I also would be extremely cautious working here during covid even with 15% occupancy rules during covid we were supposed to have up to 115 people in the store, not including staff. I don’t believe they have their staffs best interest at heart, they do give you 3 hours paid off on your birthday but the trade off is garbage pay that only goes up about 10 cents a year if you have great performance results.

Started off great, but truly not an honest company

I worked at H&M for nearly 3 years. At first, it was a very fun, dynamic workplace that supported its staff and ran smoothly. I genuinely enjoyed my first year of work. Unfortunately, the store manager was a nightmare, and Area Office did not care about our concerns, and ignored our pleas for help for months. After they finally terminated the store manager, they left us without an SM through the Christmas rush, and offered us no support and no pay raise for all the extra work we were doing. As a company, they constantly change their policies and routines, and add far too much work to the already heavy management workload, without enough incentives or perks. They truly only care about the money, and have no investment in the well-being of their staff.

Good staff terrible management.

I worked at H&M for five years, three years as a part timer was great, they like to promote from within, so I got promoted to full time because I expressed an interest in the Visual Merchandiser role. After two years of waiting, I never got the training or promotion I wanted. The company has bad communication from district managers to store managers to the staff. The people who work at H&M are amazing, they have a great attitude and are quite friendly. Also H&M loves to buy their employees treats. I wish I had a better experience with the company, but I was happy for three to four years.
