Everyone I have worked with has been very nice. Sometimes management can be disorganized. You're pushed to work really hard and that's wonderful motivation but somethings are out of the worker's control, which can be hard to work with. Sometimes not enough workers are scheduled which puts extreme pressure on workers to do well as management says their management needs to crack down on the workers who are doing their best. Overall, a nice place to work, just wish there was more help sometimes.

Fun and team building

Everyday was different. Some days were fast paced while others were very slow. The fast days were stressful if the whole group didn't work hard but otherwise it was an overall fair experience. I learned the ins and outs of fashion, what drives sales, and time management to get things done in the store. I never had a problem with management, nor with any customers really. The hardest part of the job was a lot of fast paced walking and carrying many pieces of clothing. The most frustrating thing about the job was working overtime to put everything back and running out of time at the end of the night.

One of the worst places to work at

It was my first time working in a retail environment and so I thought this place would of been great at first. I wasn’t even working for one month and I noticed a lot of things while working such as management being terrible. One of the managers how ever was very condescending. I wouldn’t do anything at all to offend her and yet she would find me an easy target to pick on. It wasn’t only her, it was mostly who ever was running the shift as well. This company values themselves in team work but I did not see that at all. These people pride themselves on knowing what they are doing and being the best but all they can ever do is tell me what I have done wrong. I thought I would get positive feed back but instead all I got was negative ones. I never felt like I was successful working here, instead I always felt like I did nothing right. Basically a failure. When ever I asked for help, they made me feel like I was stupid as well when in reality I genuinely did not know a lot of things or forgot. I also noticed how rude most of the co workers were as well when it got super busy. When I told a manager about what I was experiencing, they just told me that they have also felt that way and acknowledge that it was a very high school (clique-like) environment. If he himself was acknowledging this then this is a huge problem. Management team should learn how to treat their co workers better and not single any of them out. They should be inclusive as well. No one wants to work in a “high-school esk” environment. What really got me was the fact that they told me that “everyone is willing to -

Points positifs

Customers were always kind and patient

Points négatifs

Management and co workers in general

Great place to gain experience, but work life balance is poor

I've enjoyed working at H&M for the last 5 years. I gained a lot of experience and was given opportunities to learn and grow as a person. Unfortunately the work/life balance is quite poor - it's hard to maintain any sort of semblance of a normal life with other "adults" when you have no set schedule, and are expected to work late nights and weekends.

Do you like low hours and never getting a raise?

Do you like inconsistent hours and never getting a raise? Do you like having a constant throwback to high school due to the work environment and drama? Do you like having too many managers who don't even communicate? Then this might be the job for you! (sometimes it was chill though) Also note: you will most likely work full-time hours at some point even though you're a part-time employee. (and everyone is fighting over the full-time positions which there aren't many of)

Points positifs

Make friends, often food in lunchroom, easy work

Points négatifs

no raises for part time, go from working 40 hours one week to 12 or less the next week

Great work environment

I loved my team at H&M. All my managers were awesome and they were really flexible with scheduling. I was taking college classes at the time and they made sure the students were well taken care of as well as everyone else. It was fun and the customers made it even better.

Points positifs

Discount, managers, flexible scheduling

Probably just our store

The management at this location can be difficult, especially because of the tight-knit workplace environment. A lot of gossip goes on, though it is possible to stay out of it but not easy. It's tough to bring issues to the attention of the management team because often they enable the problems. The location is busy which means that depending on your availability you will be scheduled as much as you'd like, it is easy to pick up shifts and they do listen to your scheduling preferences. It is also easy to get your shifts covered or book days off in my experience. the hardest part of the job boils down to time management and dealing with the less favorable customers, the best part of the job is also the kinder customers and when you really get along with your coworkers it's a positive environment.

Points positifs

snacks sometimes, easy shift changes/ coverages/ availability changing

Points négatifs

shifts get extended, management issues

fun atmosphere, great management

a great place to work with great people. I have made many new friends in the past six months that I have worked here. Very appreciative of the management team - by far the best managers I have had to date out of all the different jobs I've worked over the past few years.

Job is fun and easy, but management needs serious work

I worked at H&M for a 18 months. There were many things I enjoyed about this job - co-workers, location, ease of job, even the staff meetings were fun. What I didn't like, and what ultimately made me quit, was the in-office politics and gossip mill. Many times, this also included the managers talking behind employees' backs, not taking their employees' opinions into consideration, and acting selfish and immature. When this issue was raised with Canada's head office, they didn't even seem to bat an eye. The issues remained unresolved while I was working there. Hopefully now they have been, because if management wises up, I would definitely recommend this as a great place to work.

Points positifs

discounts, enjoyable work, easy, options for advancement, lots of free food

Points négatifs

management, repetitive work

The people there are what make the job what it is, a family feel.

It has it ups and down for sure.... There is a lot of staff, but such high turn over rates that most of the staff is usually new. A typical includes running around like a crazy person trying to get things done, there are always quite a bit of customers in the store at all times of the day. Management, is tricky. They are all kind people for the most part, however most of them are young and lack personable skills, and there is quite a bit of a "high school" feel at times. The most difficult part of the job would probably be what you are expected of, compared to the salary, and that there never seems to be full communication through management and employees. The most enjoyable part for me, because I have been there a couple of years, I have built close relationships with the people that are there. Gives me a sense of comfort.

Points positifs

great lunch room

Points négatifs

bad hours, immature management.
