Fast paced and stressful

Great place for a first job, lots of opportunities to advance to management. Stressful atmosphere as the store gets super busy. Most tasks involve cleaning, fitting room + cash functions.

Points positifs

Coworkers

Points négatifs

Busy

Productive, action-oriented environment, lovely coworkers

The job itself can get overwhelming at times, since there is a lot too do and it gets busy. You will typically be trained to cover all functions, like cash, fitting rooms and maintaining sales floor so the work day is dynamic and doesn't get too boring. Co-workers make the job awesome.

Points positifs

Community

Points négatifs

inconsistent hours

Fun workplace with great co-workers

Stressful

Way too stressful for what you get paid. Head office asks for a lot and sometimes feels like a big game of broken telephone as everyone has a different vision on how to interpret the mood boards for concepts. The idea they sold on being able to be creative is really saying be creative but only in this box

Points positifs

Decent benefits

Points négatifs

No over time pay, long hours

Long closing shifts that often go overtime

Decent workplace that provides good breaks. Friendly coworkers. Closing shifts often go overtime and sometimes you end at 11 pm. No competition and laid back.

Stressful work place

Customers are hard to deal with and the management could use some improvement. Toxic environment depending on who you work with and it hurts to be on your feet all day.

Repetitive

So much favoritism. They don’t really care much about you if you aren’t part of the group friends of the managers. They have high expectations for something that they can’t even do.

It's fine

Some of the management was okay but coworkers are very clicky and the hours are very scarce. There was a lot of info about sales and events happening but it seemed like more of a threat than encouragement.

Points positifs

Good pay, good shift length

Points négatifs

low amount of shifts, not super friendly

fun workplace but bad store manager

I love my job and everything but working under a bad store manager really stresses you out. The people there are good, work life is not so much balanced depending on the store you work

Not a bad place to work, but underpaid and overworked

I’ve heard that working here was amazing in the past and that it is still a good place to work outside of Canada. But at any level higher then a part timer, the pay does not reflect the amount of work and time they want you to put into it. They have a way of making you feel undervalued.

Points positifs

Decent Benefits, Depending in the store; open work environment

Points négatifs

Pay, overworked, undervalued, poor management from the store managers and above

One of the better places I have worked but became much worse after the introduction of customer memberships/points system.

When I started working here one of the things I enjoyed was there was no script or specific questions I had to ask every customer and I could be a lot more natural helping customers. After they introduced their membership program we had to bring it up in every customer interaction and our number of new sign-ups became more important than our sales numbers. It made the job twice as hard, honestly.

Points positifs

25% Staff discount on everything, even already on sale items / I had really nice coworkers

Points négatifs

their membership program, they claim to have an online inventory system but it's not even close to accurate, scheduling was all over the place and changed frequently

Fun

Good place lots of lovely people. Great environment sometimes very stressful and sometimes not stressful as it can be very boring. Especially when not many customers are there

Points positifs

Short shifts

Points négatifs

Too many shifts

Super Fast Paced

It's super fast paced. Little to no room to grow at the company. Barely any raises. Make you feel guilty for calling in sick. They do give you great training so you're well prepared.

Points positifs

Great Training. Somewhat flexible with schedule

Points négatifs

terrible management. No raises or room to grow

Takes years to get promoted

Not a bad place but management talks about job advancement but seems like it dosent really happen . There is however flexibility with scheduling. But not a really organized place to work at.

Points positifs

Free snacks on special occasions

Points négatifs

You have to do alot

Fun place to work but no low pay

It’s a fun place to work and meet great people from various backgrounds. There are too many employees so most days you’re doing boring task. There is a lot of favortism.

Points positifs

Flexibility, fun, great people

Points négatifs

Pay, no advancement

absolutely terrible management

management here is terrible, most have no education on business management/interpersonal relations. they absolutely take advantage of young people and international students here. this resulted in a few big workplace injuries, including one where a customer attacked an employee.

Fun place to work but low salary and fake development program

Good environment, a lot of difference roles to choose from, good benefits. Only drawback is that they have a so called system of employee development that is just to fill up HR files. If the company needs something done and you fit in there by chance then it is regarded as your development even it had nothing to do with what you wanted or what you had been working towards in collaboration with your Manager as part of your development.

Points positifs

benefits

Points négatifs

low salary, fake development program

Fast-paced and competitive workplace

H&M has a competitive environment for employees. The job role, description and duties were clearly defined. The most enjoyable part was that senior managers and supervisors were always very positive and helpful. They provided a great environment for development and growth.

Terrible place to work and move up.

I worked here for 2.5 years, was constantly promised promotions and worked OT for them, never got them. I did a ridiculous amount of visual merchandising work for them for the entirety of my time there unpaid and uncompensated- I did this all on the promise that I would move up. When asked and suggested we put this in writing, I was ignored. If I didn't do the merchandising tasks assigned to me without pay, my hours suffered. I proved myself and worked hard consistently, but head office at this company is unorganized, disrespectful of your time, and Their slogan is Great Place to Work-untrue. A typical day at any H&M (not just my location) was being expected to do multiple things on multiple floors because we were constantly understaffed due to poor managerial planning. This seemed the case at every location in Toronto. I do not and would not EVER recommend anyone looking for work to apply here.

Points négatifs

Terrible management
