"Do more with less" is the company's new philosophy. The company has changed over the last ten years. It used to be a company that believed in people and a work life balance. Not anymore.

Not The Best or The Worst Place to Work

I did gain a lot of experience and dabbled in different departments, including fitting rooms, cash, etc. These activities were balanced out in my shifts. One thing that really ticked me off the most were some coworkers. They really closed me off when I tried to befriend them and work with them. Even stirring up a regular conversation was difficult and they rather not respond. It was even harder to get along with SOME people in the management team as they can also be a little judgmental. So overall I got great experience, but not the best team. In terms of policies/functions, they weren't as informative with certain activities (especially on cash). I always tried to keep myself up-to-date on any new promotions or anything that they announce on the boards. Sometimes when I don't have a shift and most people do, they would announce something important that I would not know about and all the blame would be placed on me (ex. there was something they changed with gift card transactions during Christmas time to some employees and I was some of the few who didn't know about it. As a result, we messed up).

Store is beautiful. Management is not.

The company has great training in place but they take advantage by using "training" as a way to get part time sales associates who want to move up to do management jobs for minimum wage. Store manager at Limeridge Mall location is rasict and makes sales associates keep a close eye on any groups of black people that come into the store way more than white people.

Great culture, can be very fast paced

I loved working at H&M. Their core values as a company really shaped me into the worker I am today. They value hard work and dedication almost as much as offering fashion at the best price. I really loved the culture and the vibe of the store. I met a lot of great people. The only thing I would recommend is make sure you say no when you are at your limit. Sometimes the hours for part timers would get a little out of hand and the store can be incredibly busy. It's okay to say no to that extra shift if you're burnt out. Don't push yourself for the sake of the paycheque. The customers will benefit from you being well rested and happy to be there!

Productive place to work

It was a great company to work for. Every day you were able to learn something new. The management staff was excellent and always cared about the staff and customers.

Retail can be a great experience if you make it one.

A typical day of work at H&M starts off with a sales advisor meeting where the sales associates are given an update on what store promotions, sales goals, areas of improvement, and store focuses, new trends are for the day. As a part time associate I provide customer service to a wide variety of different customers as well as maintain the cleanliness of the store. The management team at H&M are really great they always listen to what we as employees have to say and going into work as always a positive experience. The co-workers are good people to work with, we all work as one team and constantly help each other out in any way we can. The hardest part of the job would probably be dealing with such a wide variety of different customers with different needs and wants. I learned that patience is a virtue and that if you keep a positive attitude any situation the outcome will most likely be a positive one. I enjoy the fashions that H&M has to offer as well as their free magazine, of which I am complete utter fan for.
