great employees

Usually I would be working by myself most of my shift. I would cover cash, fitting rooms, cleaning and running. I was trained in many different positions. I was trained as a visual, a truck responsible, I trained the new people on the floor and on truck, I helped open and close tills and I helped with safe count in the morning and evening. I had great co-workers when I got to work with them, and it was a very fast paced environment most days. There were a few evenings where there was a lot of call-outs and it was left to me, one person downstairs and one manager to run the store for the last few hours before closing. Management was not very good at keeping their word which was very frustrating. There were days where customers were very difficult to deal with, which was not very fun either. I loved all my co-workers and I enjoyed doing visual work, that was my favourite part of the job.

Fun workplace. fun people.

A typical day at work would start off with me checking what sections I am responsible for for each hour of my shift. Then i would go to my section, sort of clothing racks and fold clothes properly that are on display. WIthin the worplace the other employees were very nice and supportive during my time there. The hardest part of my job was being stationed at the cashier when it is a very busy day. We did have a lot of people on the cash register but it was still stressful having to rush through helping customers.

Would not recommend working here

When I briefly worked at H&M, it was extremely clear that the employees are very cliquey. Definitely not a friendly or welcoming environment. One of H&M’s values is “we are one team”, and I definitely did not feel like part of the team.

No room for advancement

This is a great place to work if you’re looking for a part time student job that pays minimum wage and enjoys call in shifts (like on call shifts but you have to call them 2 hours before your shift to see if you’re working or not, these shifts are common place and will be most of your shifts). Area team will promise promotions and dangle them in front of you for years, asking you to change locations, do manager work without a pay increase and overall treat you like garbage. Management is nice but not very helpful when it comes to problems with customers as they change the rules of the business based on how they feel like responding that day. I also would be extremely cautious working here during covid even with 15% occupancy rules during covid we were supposed to have up to 115 people in the store, not including staff. I don’t believe they have their staffs best interest at heart, they do give you 3 hours paid off on your birthday but the trade off is garbage pay that only goes up about 10 cents a year if you have great performance results.
