The job sucked! I was a minority while the whole store staff was white. I had good working hours but the people or should I say the supervisor was not fun, made me do all his work or work we were supposed to accomplish together. He was in his 40s and flirted with all the females who entered regardless of age. We did not even have a qualified grocery department supervisor. Only person Been 2 years (2018) and glad I quit the job. Horrible 7 months working experience.
Bad management and no qualified supervisor

Giant tiger is a very easy job if you have good management and are trained properly, which I have. For the amount of work I do in a day I would say it pays well. But don’t get me wrong, this is like every job where you need to actually try. My manager started in my position as a grocery associate and worked his way up to manager. They have been very lenient with some employees and give fair chances. Our benefits include dental. Overall this job has been a great experience and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. although it’s a far commute for me, it’s worth it.
Very diverse place to work. I worked in every department. Good company benefits and things. Though seniority is not really any pull. When hours are cut Like all places it has bad points. To each their own. I will not speak of some and my reasoning for me leaving
Working in retail should be mandatory for everyone, as it gave me multiple skills which I use even now: -Patience -Customer Service skills -How to problem solve and work with money -And how to learn more about the city of which you live in, as many GT's can be the heart of a community. Depending on what position you are in, you'll have different tasks. Cashier: -Bagging items, counting money, processing returns, refilling bags Grocery: -Putting away stock, assisting customers with questions, knowledge of layout of the store. More than anything the job NEEDS you to be friendly and have great customer service skills, which most people will accumulate naturally while working here.
Great starting job
No room for advancement, angry customers
I have worked there for a couple of years. When I first started to work there, things were a bit shaky as with every first job, trying to get used to the way things are done. I've learnt a lot of life lessons and skills from my fellow employees such as time management, interpersonal skills, customer service, etc. The hardest part of the job is dealing with customers because you truly don't who you are going to deal with and what they are going through. I enjoy working on new planograms and making an area look nice. Workplace culture is probably non-existent right now, my co-workers don't really get along with one another and a lot of negativity surrounds the area when certain people are on shift.
Giant Tiger Welland is a place that where the workplace culture is the best aspect of the job, you can easily have a good time with fellow employees and also get the job done with ease, which is a great thing to look forward to on a long day.
difficult to request certain days off, occasional rude customers
