The job sucked! I was a minority while the whole store staff was white. I had good working hours but the people or should I say the supervisor was not fun, made me do all his work or work we were supposed to accomplish together. He was in his 40s and flirted with all the females who entered regardless of age. We did not even have a qualified grocery department supervisor. Only person Been 2 years (2018) and glad I quit the job. Horrible 7 months working experience.
Bad management and no qualified supervisor
A typical day doesn't exist. everyday was brand new. one can argue that there was a "normal pattern" but for me that only exists after familiarity with your job and position. i learned a vast amount, much of what to do and much of what not to do. The owner of the company is a good hard working man. Many stores are franchised and can be varied from store to store. thus, the atmosphere of a store can very greatly. The hardest part of the job all comes down to the owner. If you have a good owner and boss; your day is smooth. If you don't have a good boss, then the store its self, your employees and your customers all suffer for it.

While I did learn a lot about the in and outs of a groccery store and sales, the work enviroment was not so good with an over bearing owner who would berate employees for even a small mistake. New employee were hired weekly due to this. The work day was stressfull but all together made me more able to deal with pressure. Management was always skilled and already had many years of experience under there belt and were ready to teach new employees.
Well furnished lunchroom
Stressfull work envroment
A lovely lunch room was available to us. With everything that we would need to prepare or heat our lunch
I liked working at Giant Tiger!. As cashier I loved meeting the people who some of which I became friends. Many of the customers would only come through my till as I was always interested in knowing how they were. This did not affect my work. I can work fast and still chat. Giant Tiger has times when it is extremely busy. When they are all employees in the store are trained to do cash. So when they were needed to help us they came up and chipped in. A wonderful idea to help take care of customers quickly so they can go home or on with their days. The owner was a very nice man, always pleasant and acknowledged us as employees. I would say the hardest part of the job (which did no affect me) was when it was extremely busy. As everywhere in cities people tent to come in at various times and many at one time. It was our job as cashiers to cash them out with a friendly smile and word and send them off with a smile. Most enjoyable: I love meeting people!
Marvellous lunch room
No cons that I can think of
Amazing first job to have! I learned a lot there. It's a great place and all of my co-workers were beyond amazing. It was hard with the weekly schedule because I wasn't able to plan anything ahead of time. We got long hours (9-8 hours), but we got a long lunch and multiple breaks.
love working with this company and wish I never left and glad that is had the opportunity to work there and amazing work atmosphere and great working associates
not enough space for everything
I worked here for 3 years. It was good at first, but then found that our owner and the management didn't really care for their staff. Everyone was/is treated poorly. We were never thanked or shown appreciation towards anything good we did, only were scold and told how bad we are when we did something wrong.
made good friends
Everyday started with a tucked in dress shirt, and a to-do list that every worker is given to finish before the end of their shift. Learned how to properly lift heavy objects and how to keep a steady heart rate from excessive work. Management was questionable due to their disability to increase my hours from 15-25 weekly, even after I was told they would give me 30-40 weekly. Ill just add that the staff list was changing on the regular. Most enjoyable part of the job was going home knowing that the manager was happy and muscles were sore due to hard work!
Felt like something was accomplished after every shift.
Short breaks and short hours.
