It was nice
Pre-Board Screening Officer (Ancien employé) –  yyz10 novembre 2019
nice way to get into the screening field. You were paid nicely, you could always extend your shifts for overtime. Hours started early in the morning with 4am starts. If you aren't certified you cannot change your schedule at all and have to be available for all of your shifts 5 times a week. You become certified once you do 40hr weeks for 4-6 weeks of full time training after passing tests each week. If you cant do training when you are scheduled to, the schedulers and company do not care about you and will ask you to leave the company. ZERO care about students working for them as well... they don't care about their employees.

Ok place to be
Security Officer (Employé actuel) –  Spareboard30 octobre 2019
All work at the last minute...job competition is by email weekly and then, if you have low seniority, you get the scraps. Very few assigned sites, so good luck

Run away as fast as you can
Screening officer (Ancien employé) –  Edmonton25 octobre 2019
Managers pick their favourites, sending friends to the cushy sit-down jobs, inconsistent with discipinary actions (some with breach after breach were promoted), holding off washroom breaks or lunch breaks
Errors on paystubs
Understaffed for evening shifts

Poor management
Security officer (Ancien employé) –  Halifax, NS20 octobre 2019
Low pay they tell you a wage and it's never on point no hours if your new to the company they give low hours for two months to see if you can tolerate it then get mad when you request extra hours management aruges in front of employees for whose second in command it's complete playground and I wouldn't let my dog apply for a job there

Worst Security Experience EVER
Security Officer (Ancien employé) –  Halifax, NS20 octobre 2019
Switched from a full-time job because they offered me higher wages. Went 2 months and only was offered 28 hours of work which they called me the day before my shift and changed my hours which left me with 9 hours of work within 2 months. Management will lie to your face. Was told pays were going to be $13-$15 an hour which I was only getting $11.55. They offered to drive me to and from a site and forgot to pick me up for my shift then they told me at the end of my 13 hour shift that they weren't going to have a day-time mobile driver and handed me a bus ticket. I quit because I was lied over and over and was not valued as an employee. I would not work for this company if you want to be respected and not lied to.

Descent pay and security. However poorly managed and seem to miss pay often so watch pay stubs. Poor work culture.
Preboard screening officer (Employé actuel) –  Calgary, AB18 octobre 2019
Job itself is good. Staff for most part are great to work with. Secure job and ok pay. Major disconnect between management and workers. Also they dont deal with problem employees well. Needs to be more fluid connection between management and staff. Great companies start with great leadership and open communication between all. This is lacking with GARDWORLD.

Gardaworld Screening Officer position at Edmonton International Airport
Screening Officer (Employé actuel) –  Edmonton, AB15 octobre 2019
Total disregard of employee well being, both mentally and physically, you aren't treated as a person just an employee number.
Archaic corporate structure of hiring and firing managers who don't conform.
Very stingy on providing employees with amenities.Sometimes they won't even provide us water.
Company's favorite managing strategies are negative reinforcement, micromanaging and fear mongering.
Management lies, pressures staff to cut corners.
"Quality Leads" make it impossible to focus on your job, way too much oversight. The QL's have quotas for finding non compliance's which leads to good officers getting discipline for nothing.
Far too much favoritism, arbitrary discipline.
Garda managers step over CATSA regulations constantly. They target, bully, harass, intimidate staff to build a fake files against them to fire them.
Operations managers with no management credentials.
HR "looses" medical reports and fails to protect personal information.
NEVER NEVER NEVER sign on as a bilingual officer, you will get the same pay with much more responsibilities. Sometimes I was not allowed to eat because I was the only french speaker in the checkpoint and I wasn't allowed to leave.
Breaks are inconsistent due to passenger load and management styles. Communication from management to S.O.'s is typically limited.
Everything is seniority based, you may have to wait quite some time for a full time position and/or for the opportunity to have a decent schedule.
Only 100 lockers for 400+ employees

The only benefit to working here is the pay. That is it.

Consistent work
Mobile Security Officer (Employé actuel) –  Edmonton, AB5 octobre 2019
Overall a great organization to work for , steady work , consistent weekly schedules with alternate weekends off. Management is approachable and understanding of personal needs.

The cons:
Mobile officers are some of the lowest paid , and no hope of that changing anytime soon.

Memorize the union book to have a chance against the management.
Pre-Board Screening Security Officer (Ancien employé) –  Edmonton, AB1 octobre 2019
Tip.. a happy life/job is not all about the money. Don’t waste your time. You have no life, no seniority, no respect from management or the public. Not worth it!
Points positifs
Good money
Points négatifs
No life, no respect.

Snake Management
Security Gaurd (Ancien employé) –  Barrie, ON30 septembre 2019
All supervisors and management are all connected to write you up at any detail to get you fired. They perceive to be very friendly but are secretly trying to take you down before your 90 probationary period so they dont give any employees benifits. BEWARE!

PreBoard Screening Officer (Ancien employé) –  Edmonton, AB17 septembre 2019

Security - Suncor Refinery
Security Officer (Ancien employé) –  Edmonton, AB6 septembre 2019
Well typical day at my late posting at Suncor Refinery traffic control in the morning for 1.5 hour outside all year around.
I didn't have much to learn because I work at other refinery in Alberta.
Management is hard to under stand because of language, he contradict himself for what he e-mail to staff and change it to help his inner circle staff.
Well you get harassed by management inner circle by them spying on you by camera, them driving by your post area and make up store that your not doing your job. The hard part of the job is dealing with the management inner circle.
The most enjoyable part of the job is when you deal with Suncor personnel and contractor personnel. Also when you go home for the weekend.
