Gap was my first real job. I've been here for around 4 months (started in January, but this year COVID has delayed my work.)

I keep being told to perform tasks I have no training for. I.E. "Help in the fitting rooms" but I've no idea what work needs to be done. Or, "If the machines beep, take the tags off" But I've never worked at the cash registers or received training for how to remove tags / etc. When asking questions about how to perform tasks / improve no one seems to want to help. Any time I need a tool or piece of equipment it's almost always a case of "ask someone else."


My first three months at GAP I wasn't scheduled nearly enough hours. I've no idea why they were hiring. There would be consecutive 7-10 days where I had 0 hours of work. Since Corona, I've been scheduled more (enough? too many?) hours.


Half my coworkers won't talk to me or even acknowledge me. One specific manager is also very impatient when I ask questions or otherwise need help. I think if I had previous retail experience this job would be more enjoyable but as a new worker it's miserable.

This was my first job, and I had a hard time trying to work here. When I was first hired they said I would get at least 10-20 hours a week, which never happened. The manager hired so many employees and picked favourites that only the favourites would get shifts. Often I was only scheduled for about 6-10 hours a month and left struggling to pick up others shifts to get more hours. Because of the lack of hours I was often frustrated at work because there was a lot of things I never learned to do from lack of training, and the assistant managers would get very snarky and rude if I asked them for help.

Because I wasn’t one of the favourites, I was often outcasted at work and felt like the managers were trying to pick on me while doing a shift. Often they would text me and ask that I come into work only two hours before the shift started, which made it impossible to predict when I’d be working. Sometimes I’d be forced to say no because there was no way I could get there on time, which lead to the assistant managers to give me dirty looks on my next shift.


The lack of management was ridiculous. Our general manager was hardly every working, and the assistant managers were very cliquish and gossiped way to much. Often they would be in the back eating and talking about other staff members, and when any employee they didn’t like would ask for help, they would purposefully take copious amounts of time to respond or solve the issue. Management would often treat me like a kid because I was younger than them, often talking down to me or explaining things in a way that just made me feel

Left after a few months due to bad management and lack of hours. Discount was good but not worth taking away all my availability for the one shift every 2 weeks

I loved the GAP when I was there, because there were always new customers to get to know, and everyone was always so positive. It was definitely a fast-paced work environment, but it could also be slow. No matter what, there was always something to do to keep you busy and that is one of the reasons I loved it. I only moved on to advance with my education.

They also give many opportunities to try new things. You can go from women's floor, to men's, to kids, to baby. It all depends on your strengths but they definitely will give u a chance to try things. Even fitting rooms and cash if that's your cup of tea.

I personally liked working at GAP for it was a relaxed and a fun job. But the only thing I felt a bit negative about was the hours I got. They give very less hours to new employees (around 8 hrs-12 hrs per week).

Varied shifts. Typical day for me was opening, counting floats, printing off reports and emailing them when needed. Monthly audits, staff reviews. Training of staff.

For my first retail experience, this has been an amazing experience. First off, hats off to the management staff for being so understanding and hosptible. They really understand how to balance my work life with my university studies. Second, the team is very nice. We are like one big family!

It was a decent place to work. A very friendly environment with everyone there being willing to help each other out. A nice place to feel comfortable at work.

The atmosphere at working gap is really great . Peers are supportive and make you feel welcome. Salary is good , if you do your given task on daily basis you don’t feel any workload at all.

I worked at Gap for over 2 years while in college. Great place to work part-time as a student job. Can't really imagine working full-time as the pay isn't great and the movement isn't fast.

If you are a person who expects any level of work-life balance, this is not the brand for you. No respect, no opportunity for advancement and expected overnight shifts, sometimes thrown in at last minute.

The store manager is good, she respect and listen to applicant, like in my case I was not working in Sunday's because I am a practising Catholic and I consider it holy so she never gave me Sunday shift. Management is very generous, they provide goodies especially during sale events to make sure that staff has energy to work.

After a while, they hire new people and if you aren't the manager's favourite they replace you and you begin to get less hours. They also didn't give very much hours anyway, most of my hours came from covering someone's shift.
