I've worked in security fields since I was 18 but as a security guard since I was 26. I was treated like a child because I was new to being on the site I was assigned. I asked to move to a different site after my hours had been cut but was turned down. I then asked to be placed for on call work but never recieved any calls.
Unfortunately when I moved from western Canada back to Ontario I was extremely disappointed with my experience with my local branch of G4S and based on my experience with this branch alone....I would not recommend anyone work for them even though my experiences out west were fantastic and I would highly recommend them out there...the branch here really managed to ruin anything good I had to say about the company

It seem as if every time a new season comes and goes so do the jobs. Management needs to hire more people into more L - T positions Very Little to avg amounts of work activity a lot of patrolling

Poor management in the Windsor Ontario location. They do not value their employees everybody is just a number to them. To elaborate I was an employee with this company I had worked for a good period time unfortunately for me I had witnessed a suicide happen in 2016 and I had to take almost a year off to get myself in order seeing psychologist therapist doctors etc . Well I was covered by wsib this company decided they would appeal my claim because this company felt I had a pre-existing issue that caused me to leave the company for that year most ridiculous thing I ever heard I was a very good employee up until that incident threw me on a roller coaster of emotions. I would suggest that nobody works for them because they don't take anybody seriously and they hire anybody off the street with the security license give them a couple books to read and then grant them supervisor status. The company is a joke.
Lack of communication and respect for employees
A day at the Hospital can be very hectic and dangerous sometimes. My fellow guards and I would patrol hospital property, respond to alarms and distress calls, and manage entrances to the hospital lobby as well as the ER. My co workers were all good people. Our supervisors would often lay some of their responsibilities on us; for example, scheduling. We would often have to find people ourselves to cover days we would need off for other commitments. The hardest part of the job would be managing the ER desk, where many sick and disgruntled people would be difficult to deal with. But professionalism is key and you must treat all others equally. The most enjoyable part of the job was patrolling with my fellow guards and responding to calls. This provided some excitement/relaxation while on duty. I would always come home with an interesting story if I was on patrol that day. The main issue I have with G4S, is that after 9 months of working there, I still did not receive my protective vest to prevent a potential stab wound. This made me very uneasy as there were numerous instances where we stopped and searched a suspicious patron and found weapons and tools; or dealt with a larger individual trying to cause us physical harm.
Socialize with the public, many people are grateful for your services.
No protective gear issued to me after 9 months.
