Optical Receptionist in Edmonton, AB
The doctors are amazing; manager is lazy, unorganized & unprofessional. Don’t expect any job advancement here, there’s always a reason as to why it won’t happen.

Productive, fun and exciting place to work
This company has been great to work for. Not only has there been very hands on training and support from other staff and management, it has also been a wonderful environment to learn new things. If you express a want to learn they will give you the opportunity to do so.

Preaches a culture that doesn’t exist
Company leaders and corporate talk about a coaching culture for everyone. Does not exist at Head Office were all of the corporate leaders are. Some clinics it does to an extent, many it doesn’t. At the end of the day, if they want you gone, you’re gone with zero coaching or feedback from anyone. It’s a lot of smoke and mirrors cause it sounds warm and fuzzy. The other huge problem with this company is it is run by doctors and always will be even though they say it isn’t. Nobody ever tells a doctor what they need to change to do better. But, everyone will blame things on anyone but the doctors. Finally...exams and all product way overpriced! Buy your glasses anywhere but here or you’re paying too much!

Make sure to kiss your manager's a** if you want to survive
I honestly loved my job with my FYI location. The interview was easy, the team in the lab and at front was amazing, great people. The patients were great and I didn't feel like I "worked" a single day in my life for the three short months I worked there.But.If the Practice Coach doesn't like you, for any reason, you will be let go. Coaching sessions are constant which is great for personal improvement, but don't you dare have any personality to you at all or you'll be told to tone it down and reign it in. The management there all subscribe to baby boomer mentality, so you better not also be able to think for yourself or have any forward inclusive thinking at all. The pay sucks for the amount of work you're expected do and the long hours whomp, but the work itself is pretty rewarding. Things to keep in mind if choosing to apply for this position.
Atmosphere is not good
Moral is bad at FYI and the pay is awful. Many really good employee's end up leaving because they are not willing to pay them enough to keep them. It's all about putting money in FYI's pocket. Very unfortunate.
