Decent pay but culture lacking
n/a (Ancien employé) –  Surrey, BC13 juin 2019
Very poor culture...seems like many union employees are simply dragging themselves to work everyday to get one step closer to a nice pension. As a result, there is high levels of frustration resentment and a lack of ambition among the workforce.

Myself, I never received any formal feedback session even though I requested it multiple times.

The Surrey office is located so far out in Surrey it's almost in farmland...very difficult to get to unless you live in the immediate area. Office location, combined with a general lack of enthusiasm in the workforce has me wondering what HR and leadership will do to attract and retain young talent.
Points positifs
Pay, great work/life balance
Points négatifs
Culture, office location

Honestly, I liked working at Fortis but the Management is a huge problem and they need to be retrained. Its a bit silly how they have decided to run things there.

Great Place to work
Leader (Employé actuel) –  BC7 mai 2019
Great place to work, a variety of opportunities to be had and excellent benefits with good flexibility and time off. Not very good internal promotion opportunities however.

Productive and fun workplace.
CUSTOMER CARE REP (Ancien employé) –  Prince George, BC14 février 2019
Tending to incoming and outgoing calls, helping customers understand their bills. Creating payment arrangements, dealing with collections and disconnections.
Workplace culture was great, everyone is so friendly and very helpful when anyone reaches out for help.
The hardest part of the job was talking to the customers who had to change account info to theirs due to their partner passing away.
The most enjoyable part of the job was talking with the customers and being able to help them understand their bills.

Utility mindset...
Consultant/Manager, Business Planning (Ancien employé) –  Vancouver, BC16 novembre 2018
Super painful place to work if you have any mindset to think outside the box and challenge the status quo. I worked with good people but the corporate culture is the worst I've experienced

Not a bad place to work
Instrumentation and communication specialist (Employé actuel) –  Surrey, BC26 juin 2018
Interesting technology. For the most part, co-workers are pleasant. A lot of freedom given to solve problems.
If you're willing to listen, there are some very intelligent people here.
Salary has stagnated, however the benefits package is pretty good.

Fortis needs to focus more on Safety and Customer Relations
Electrical Meter Reader (Ancien employé) –  Kelowna, BC3 juin 2018
Work Environment is average, typical 9-5 work day and found that the balance wasn't bad. Management really depends on where you are positioned. Job Security is not there unless you have put in 10 plus years and advancement is next to impossible.

You always felt you had to watch your back with management.
Customer Service Rep (Ancien employé) –  Prince George, BC3 juin 2018
I was let go from this company because management said I was not the "right fit". I am a mature woman and I was completely blind sighted by my dismissal. The management was terrible, and they should totally review their managers. They are little empire builders with no concern for the employees. I was treated very unfairly.

Fortis BC a Life of Stress & Misery
Customer Service Representative (Ancien employé) –  Trail, BC22 avril 2018
IU worked 2.5 years for FBC Electricity. With a Spineless Union that couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag, to Team leaders who contorl who gets a permanent position and where SENIORITY means absolutely nothing, to screaming customers who are choked about their bills and the fact that a SMART Meter was being litterally forced upon them at risk of cutting their power if they didn't take it. One team lead who blows his own horn and loves the sound of his own voice and looks for any excuse to dump on call centre staff. Who picks his friends and cute girls to fill permanent positions as opposed to those who actually earn them. The hours are between 7 am and 7 PM. On the plus side if you like to get fat, everytime new trainee's hit the floor there are Pizzas in the lunch room. People bring doughnuts and muffins from time to time and if you are lucky if there meetings across the hall that are catered you will get to have the leftovers they didn't eat. Fire drills are truly a blessing in disguise. The actual call center staff are actually really really good and supportive of each other. The lunch room is where everyone tells their horror stories about customers on the phone. Free Coffee or tea or Iced tea. Free office supplies, for use in office. They do support you if you have a PHYSICAL disability and will accommodate you with Special chairs or Keyboards and now most desks are stand up sit down desks. Great view of the columbia river and every so many months you switch to a different desk. Just don't ever tick off a Team Manager for any reason or they will make it their  plus... personal goal to make your life miserable and get rid of you whatever it takes. If you are a Temp, kiss butt, do whatever you are told, don't miss a single day and make sure your metrics meet their demands or you will never see permanent and the Useless union has a little clause that if you work there for more than a year as a temp they have to give you permanent or get rid of you and hire more temps.  moins

It was Alright
Customer Care Representative (Employé actuel) –  Vancouver Harbour, BC11 avril 2018
The job itself is easy and repetitive, the learning and training methods are horrible as the trainers only care about themselves. Your success truly depends only on yourself as the trainers don't stop to help or listen.
When you get on the actual call center floor you are monitored non-stop.
Not enough pay for the work you have to do.

Poorly managed
Senior Billing Analyst, Billing (Ancien employé) –  Burnaby, BC6 février 2018
The management made the environment seem fun when the contact center in Burnaby was first established. The company had promises and exciting incentives for the employees. Things quickly went sour and the billing floor began to feel like a sweat factory. There were always eyes on you and questioning when you were in the washroom for "longer than expected" periods of time.

Friendly Staff
CSR, Billing Analyst, and Accounts Payable Clerk (Ancien employé) –  Kelowna, BC15 novembre 2017
This was one of the nicest places to work. Great coworkers, overall intelligent and understanding management that respected you and your opinions. The work can be somewhat overbearing at times, and the corporate office decision and changes were sometimes surprising and unexpected which was a bit frustrating, leaving us wondering about our job security. A lot of departmental rumours would always be the workplace gossip.

The salary was good and bad. It depended on the union you were in. And with the constant union vs. the company fighting over the new collective agreements, strikes and benefit changes were always a possibility.
Points positifs
Great staff
Points négatifs
Lack of flexibility
