Cashier/Customer Service in Oak Bay, BC
flexible hours and nice co-workers
i worked in cash so it got pretty boring standing at a till for a long period of time. at my store management was actually pretty good, i really liked my supervisors. i loved my coworkers, they're super friendly and helpful when you don't understand. just like any grocery store job, it got super repetitive and boring, plus they didn't pay you overtime and rarely gave raises. my supervisor was super flexible with my hours though so that was great. also, customers can be pretty rude.
Learn about different departments
It was nice to work with all customers need , helping to get all the groceries, provide new recipes with the products they have in the store . Learn about bakery , coffee , the buffet and different types of meat learn about fresh food and their quality food. It was amazing
Stressful, fast paced, boring,
Shifts as a cashier are boring and long. You deal with lots of different people. The majority of the customers are rude and they put down your spirit. Working on busy days was difficult and overwhelming especially when only 2 cashiers were present, the line ups would be long and customers would be very impatient. Also, you have to remember/look up the PLU codes for produce which is VERY stressful, especially when there are customers waiting in line. For example, there are so many different types of apples each with their own code. If you accidentally put the code of a different apple the customer will become very annoyed, and it sucks because they don't understand how hard it is remembering all the codes - especially when almost every apple looks the same. Some customers don't remember what type of produce they chose. I learned about managing a cash register, dealing with unhappy customers, communicating with people regularly, and overall a typical work environment.
Overall, the job is easy but the customers you deal with make it harder. If this is your first job, you will make a lot of mistakes but it's okay. Don't let a customer dishearten you.
Front Line Cashier and Assistant Supervisor in Langford, BC
Typical grocery store
Worked as a supervisor for front end. Constantly dealing with rude customers. Positive was that most times there was more than one person at customer service, so we always had backup.
Grocery Stocker and Deli in Victoria, BC
very slow paced easy going job
shifts at fairway are enjoyable but become very repetitive extremely fast, i learned how to be easy to talk to, how to be a people pleaser with words, how to deal with an emergency situation and how to act on it. management is just wonderful at fairways, all of the staff and supervisors are very fun to work with and very comforting and helpful when they need to be. the hardest part of the job would probably be standing on your feet for extensive amounts of time can get very sore, and the most enjoyable part would be talking with your co workers in small gaps of doing nothing
