Wow! You have to be a machine to work there. Very busy place and there is not enough staff. You are not treated well at all. You better know your stuff or out the door you go! Not a nice place to work at all. I have seen them fire so many people really without giving them a chance. You have no say at all. They are not interested in your opinion.

It is not the hours that is long, It is the work load!
Management team in Timmins need excessive training in how to properly treat and communicate with their staff. They hugely lack respect for them. They view their staff as "lesser than" instead of as part of the working team. Confidentiality is a huge problem. Nothing can be said to management that will not soon be known to everyone. This Extendicare is VERY POORLY MANAGED on many fronts. ALWAYS short staff. High turnover. Very clicky. Good performance/hard workers are rarely acknowledged. Very low morale. Always been. Somewhat of a toxic work enviroment. The staff are a great bunch to work with on the most part. They have each others back and try to help each other as best they can under the work conditions given. Many solid friendships have been made. But its a high price to pay. I would never recommend Timmins Extendicare as a place to work.

Used to be the best company ,Change of management and it all went down hill the they no longer care about residents or there staff you just do what your told wether it right or wrong or you no longer have a job they will just cut your hours till you have no choice but to leave THIS IS REALLY A TERRIBLE COMPANY NOW....
non the pay not worth having to leave your humanity behind
I worked there for over 10 years as a psw. It was great when i first started but it is now ran with new management who are the worst people in the world. They treat the psw's like they are nobodys and are the dirt on there shoes. Would not recommend for anyone to work at the port hope extendicare. They suck the life out of you!!!
Weekends when management isnt there
Fun place with a bunch of nice knowledgeable psw and nursing staff. A very multicultural experience that benefits both residents and staff....a hugely caring enviroment
Management not open for discussion for change
Management does not listen to their staff, and are not willing to remedy the situation once they are aware of a problem. Most coworkers are great to work with but the full time PSWs will gang up on new or part time employees, and report a first time minor issues to upper management that could have been discussed and fixed on the floor with supervisor such as the need to speak slower and louder to hard of hearing residents. I would recommend to check any long term facilities online record with the ministry of health for any warnings, violations, incidents. That will give you an idea of how the LTC facility operates before deciding to accept a position there. All LTC facilities have their MOH records online for the public to view. I'm not saying this facility has any bad reports but it's best to check and decide for yourself. I worked there part time for two years, and that was more then enough for me.
Short staffed and overworked
7:00 Arrive staff meeting 7:15 Start getting clients ready (hygiene, briefs, oral care)8-10 residence 9:00 Be in the caffetieria for breakfast 10:00 Get clients to washroom if needed 10:15 Break 10:30 Make beds, do Charting, Change brief if needed 11:00 Leisure time( arts, singing, stretching, go for walks) 11:30 Lunch 12:15 Break 12:30 POC electronical charting 12:35 Laundry, making beds, brief check 1:15 juice or snack time 1:30 POC electronical charting 1:35 Brief check 1:40 Assisting with nurses if helps needed 2:00 Leisure time 3:00 Make sure all charting is done properly 3:30 Home time ■Caring for individuals and/or families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption. ■Administering bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in movement, bathing, personal hygiene, dressing and undressing. ■Planning and preparing meals, including special diets, and feeding or assisting in feeding clients. ■Demonstrating infant care to new parents. ■Performing routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings, administering medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of home care agency supervisor or nurse. ■Performing routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes and making beds. ■Providing elderly and convalescent clients with companionship and personal care in client’s home under general direction of home care agency supervisor or family members.

It is a good place to work at. They assist the staff and make you feel a member of family. Staff get along for the residents benefit and some become life friends.
