Co-workers are mean & are not there for the residents. May cause unnecessary drama that affects how others feel about themselves. Management knows, but very little changes. Other places I worked at provided meals for their staff at no extra cost. This place doesn’t. One doesn’t feel valued as a front line worker.
Close to my home
Co-workers are mean
Extendicare is a terrible place to word. They do not care about the seniors and treat them horribly. Management treats the staff with the same horrible indignifying disrespect as the clients. Management is uneducated, and have no idea how to do the right job for clients and staff. High turn over of staffing speaks for itself, so stay far away unless you want to be a part of a corrupt, unprofessional, and an uncaring company. I left because because of how they make you treat residents/clients
Residents/clients and their family
The management team, pay, the way they treat staff and residents/clients
Who will survive without work for 3 mos? Then they will call to tell that if you don’t pick up shift you’ll loose the job. I’m a single Mom and so new to Canada but hiring people like that is totally no help at all instead they made me feel so helpless. The delema and difficulty of applying for this job is so tough then they will just treat you nothing as in NO WORTH. I hope they will come to the idea of valuing new comers and or new staff
Avoid this place like the plague. Place is filled with very negative people who will bully and harass you. They will make up lies about you if they don’t like you. I used to work at Extendicare Oakview Place and regret that I even did. Management lies and will pick faults with you and will lie to you when they decide they no longer want you working for their company and terminate you. It has one of the worst reputations in Winnipeg. They don’t care about the residents. They’re only in this job for the high pay salary. Believe me, this is the kind of work environment nobody would EVER want to work at. Take it from me, a former employee of Oakview Place.

Many staff are simply doing their job by the book and on their own schedule. They seem not to care that these are human beings with feelings, insecurities that they are dragging out of bed, throwing on the toilet and scrubbing down with cold water, even while the resident is screaming in distress with no care for their dignity!! It can be very sad to witness such a lack of empathr for our seniors! Ps....i step in and do the right thing, despite the dirty looks from coworkers that seem to think we're washing cars, not people!!!
Very ignorant management that have no connecting skills with staff and clients. Don't expect union reps to step up for you even if your in the right. Support staff and office workers are hard pressed to correct payroll issues or paperwork typos.
Extendicare treats their employees well and provides great care for residents and their families. It is fast paced, physically and mentally demanding, and can be stressful. Employees work as a team regardless of their education and position.
- Assisting with ambulation, positioning and transferring using mechanical lifts - Assisted/provided total personal care by following the care plan like eating, dressing, and grooming - Maintaining computer or paper documentation of Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) and other findings/observations - Self-actualization by helping patient/resident/client to reach their maximum potential
typically a great place to work. nursing staff are very competent, from HCA's to RN's. residents are treated well, and food is very good. management is very accomodating to staff when needed
free lunches for staff appreciation
too short staffed most days
is a good facility to work at all the people are very approachable from management down to maintenance ,ive learned a lot trhat makes my ability and qualification as a HCA i enjoy working with my co-worker and as the same time i love serving the residents/clients
good salary rate
I enjoy were I work, I love my manager and the staff I work with. They are very flexible, and we are all well trained on all the equipment. We have regular meeting and are very up to date.
Not enough hours
I worked their than I had serious health issues and then my manager says to me ,you have been so good up until this point. I didn't plan my illness and it was from working so many hours and double shifts. The management needs to be better trained. Also if you keep treating your employees like they don't matter when someone gets sick. Something is wrong with this because I help people and get so much satisfaction out of making people happy. Then when a PSW gets sick and phones in because they don't want to make other people sick that are vulnerable and fragile ,they tell you that it's hard to replace you for that shift. If we weren't sick we would be there. So the Oshawa extended care on park Rd needs a over haul.
The clients can be nice .
Not enough compassion for people.
Atrocious management. Always belittling nursing staff. Very cheap when it comes to new equipment. Non-approachable what so ever. Basically big bullies, not worth working here!
Staff and residents are lovely
I have never worked in such a horrific non professional environment in my entire life. I would never subject myself or my loved ones to such a toxic atmosphere. There seems to be an issue with communication between staff and management. The front line staff seem to have a rogue style agenda in regards to resident care plans and seem to push their ideals onto the residents and their families. I suggest that if your looking into a career in health that to consider other specialties and refrain from ltc style of career.
There is an end to the shift
