Extendicare Moose Jaw is a long term care home with over 100 residents where a staff demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care to residents. Exhibits interpersonal, organizational and communications skills and ability to work independently.
Free snacks intermittently
Things are working normal for me as a hard worker.
I love working here you gain a lot of experience working in a long term care facility. You gain new relationships with each resident as well your always aware of what is occurring in the work place
New relationships with patients
Can become a stressful work day
Extendicare is usually short staffed. If you like working short, under stressed while being told you should be doing better than all the best to you. Also most staff who have positions have been there forever they get preferentially treatment and casual staffbusually get ridiculed until they quit. It is a super toxic environment.

I loved working in the Extendicare facility in Viking Alberta; they really care about the residents and their health is paramount to the Extendicare employees. Working there, I have learned how to task my days and to develop my empathy skills and to practice patience and understanding. I wish an Extendicare facility was closer to my home town, for I would love to work for them again.
If you are part time you will NOT get any weekends off! You will be scheduled every weekend! Full time in any department are just nasty mean. Also Management is terrible, very snotty and think they are above the rest. Maintenance guys are lazy. Mostly everyone is cranky and doesn’t want to be there. The company overall sucks. Unless you have no life and don’t care about working doubles all the time and can put up with all the bullsh!t this place is for you! Otherwise look elsewhere and this goes for all departments. The facility is old and has a mouse problem. The front office is also rude. There’s just nothing good to say about this place. Glad to be gone.
Working for Extendicare was an experience like none other. I learned the value of true teamwork as we would tend to the elderly. The relationships and personal growth were greatly valued, as I still carry these values in my day to day activities as a mother. The hardest part of the job was leaving. I missed the people I worked with and the seniors. I still miss them and keep in touch with them even today. A typical day at work involved daily care ( such as feeding, bathing, etc.) of the elderly. Our job was to maintain their sense of dignity throughout their time at Extendicare. I treated the seniors as I would have wanted to be treated. I enjoyed going the extra mile to make them smile, to give them that sense of peace and belonging in a place that may have seemed less like their usual home. The most enjoyable part of the job was the bonds that grew between myself and the patients. I enjoyed every minute, even the more difficult ones. This is because it gave me a sense of purpose as a caregiver and as a human.
great benefits and pay and a relatively easy workload (not given too much on your plate). HOWEVER, lots of drama between staff, especially PSWs who are jaded and should no longer be working a job they clearly despise as it ruins work for everyone, and causes a high amount of staff turnover which isn't fair for residents.
Very cliquey place to work, with toxic management. They were all cozy with each other, yet seemed to hate the staff. Most horrible feeling to perform under. Most staff seemed terrified of the bosses & I understand why. Also, reported safety issues were treated by mgmt as if they were trivial personal complaints, rather than concern for the residents. I have told my kids that if I ever need to be put in a nursing home in my later years absolutely DO NOT ever put me in Extendicare.
None, not even union - which is useless
