A good enough place to work. Unionized, and if you stay on the good side of management you will enjoy a nice career. Staff are nice once they get to know you and the work place gets better with time.
If you enjoy being stressed out, and made to feel like everything wrong in the world is your fault then this might be a good job for you. Expect staff to work overtime as they don't properly schedule. It feels like a prison for the elderly. I call it Pretend-to-care instead of Extendicare.

Not enough training, no communication from management. Nonstop work means front line workers take dangerous short cuts. The training coordinator has no idea what actually happens in the houses. Orientation was entirely insufficient. While many of the HSWs are great, some are extremely hostile. Constantly understaffed, no schedule organization, regularly asked to work doubles. Shift change is a disaster.
Low pay, long hours, hard work, no respect

I am working as a personal support worker in Extendicare from last 5 months .. I love to work there because I love to help needy people and old people..
Touch with my profession
Good workplace to work as a personal support worker, nice managers and nurses for supervising. Patient care is the focus and personal support workers get to provide support to sick patients.

I loved my job, my co workers and all the residents. This facility is run top notch. There are information sessions almost weekly to help in your caregiving. Learned a lot from workers who have been there for years they are all team players. The staff genuinely care about their residents.
Extendicare essentially treats you as if you’re not worth more than bare minimum in time, effort or appreciation especially if you’re a PSW. They act as if they would really rather only run the facility on RPNs but complain that PSWs ask too much in pay. Recently with the COVID-19 crisis management at the location I worked at has been overheard mentioning that they don’t think PSWs deserve pandemic pay.
It give various opportunities to deal with different individuals and increased patience levels. Despite the fast pace working environment the staff was very cooperative and helpful.

Highly stressful place to work due to the management and some of the other staff. It's definitely not the residents home..it's the staffs work place and the residents live around the staffs schedule. It's very old and dirty and unsafe.
I enjoy my time at maple view it is a fast place environment and has lots of challenges. Everyone I work with is great and we all work together as a team. Management has been doing their best and are easily approachable.
This place is the most unorganized and chaotic workplace. Management does not do their job and are not helpful when it comes to fixing issues or anything at all. Always short staffed and never tried to replace sick calls leaving 1 Psw with 30 residents.
Working alone all the time, therefore no breaks
