Extendicare has great staff. Great Residents. Management needs to improve. Starting at the very top. The facilities are lacking in proper hygiene products and ADL equipment, making it hard to provide proper and deserving care to the residents.
Staff really cares.
Management is horrible
The only good thing about working here is your coworkers. Management pick on staff, bully you and don't help you when you're short staff. You get forced to stay if youre short staffed and don't care if you can't. pay is very low. management expect you to do work of 2-3 people. 1 RPN to give medication, dressings, vitals and deal with emergencies for 60+ residents. unsafe but management don't care or help, will sit in their office and drink coffee and say no when asked to help. avoid this place.

Worst company I've ever worked for. Terrible treatment of nurses, low wage, low morale, lack of PPE, totally disorganized. High managment turnover, terrible communication, terrible work hours, little to no education opportunities, and pay is laughable.
No pro's. None.
20-30 visits per day. No support at all.
I did learned a lot of different skills at Extendicare as a student nurse. Was managing care for about 28-30 residents diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Dementia disease. Administering medications, insulin shots and also performing wound care to multiple patients.
I don’t recommend working at Extendicare, very unorganized, stressful, poor communication throughout the organization. The work load is unbearable
Most stressful job I have ever had, they treat there staff poorly and force you to stay. Extendicare has no respect for there employees. I would not recommend working for Extendicare.
Work short all the time and forced

Great place to learn and work. Busy some days ,giving medication, dressings, doctors orderss Residents and family members were great too Staff work well together very caring
As a new grad, I was very scared of how inexperienced and green I was. My position at Extendicare is very supportive of my learning and growth. I love working with the people I do. A typical shift is fairly routine, however there are always moments of unexpected change. I quickly learned to think on my feet as Charge Nurse while managing health changes with my own patients. Management is incredibly supportive and involved in care for the resident's so they remain up to date on the preferences and health status of the residents. The workplace culture we encompass is always supportive, empathetic, and collaborative. The hardest part of the job is watching a previously cognitively intact, stable resident decline due to a change in health status. The best part of the job is the relational opportunities I get with caring for the same residents every day.

Registered Nurse positions
Extendicare at west park ltc. New mgt has no heart for all the staffs. No emphathy. They treat u like robot. They dont care about ur well being. They talk to u like they care but they dont.
A very rewarding position in an often hectic and understaffed facility. Not a good work place culture due to management restrictions. I enjoy interacting and helping the residents. I dread the short staffed shifts which are becoming an almost daily occurrence.
interacting and helping the residents
barely get a break or lunch hour
Lovely newer building. Sadly this is the only good thing about Maple View. The morale is low and there is a culture of severe and unbelievable disrespect handed down from management to nursing to PSW. Working dangerously short staffed is the norm. Management hilariously denies that staffing is a crisis. Workers are overworked. A majority of bedside staff are unbelievable hard workers who enjoy their occupation but are simply overworked to an unimaginable degree. Residents are always cared for as best as humanly possible. With staff shortages, poor organization of scheduling and restrictions on supplies, care is safe but could be so much better. If your looking for absolutely amazing colleagues, teamwork and pretty decent pay, this isn’t a terrible job. Only 2 RNs have benefits (!!), and some of the ones working are just horrible human beings that treat staff under them poorly. Lots of throwing the good staff ‘under the bus’.
Decent pay, some astounding caring coworkers on the frontline
Public knowledge that it is an embarrassingly poor environment to work in
It was a difficult environment to thrive in. At the time in which I was employed at Extendicare, it was going through MOH compliancy issues and turn around of management staff. I left Extendicare to fulfill my professional growth.
Management do not support family work life balance and would rather lose you as a valuable employee than work something out, which is probably the reason for high turnover and constant job reposting.
Will replace you without blinking
Great co-workers and residents but all staff are overworked and underpaid. Little recognition given to staff that go above & beyond. Certain staff are unable to take their breaks as they would not get their work done in an eight hour shift if they took a break. Older building that needs updating and newer equipment to make work environment more enjoyable for staff as well as residents.
I see this position over and over again and I'm wondering why? I feel for the residents at Orchard Villa as they don't have a steady hand as DOC for the facility. I would caution you not to put your family members in this facility.
repeat job postings
Management and long term employees are ignorant, lazy, vindictive and BULLIES. Nothing is done about it. You will never be praised. Expect to be denigrated on a daily basis. Upper mgmt. and head office are aware and do nothing. They are concerned with the profits!
Residents, education team
Lack of support, bullying culture, short-staffed, disrespectful culture
Would not recommend this company. Have worked for over 4 LTC providers in 15 years, this is by far the worst. Poor leadership within the org , limited if any supports. No concern for the residents or their well being. Not the sort of company I will work for!
Highly stressful job and area of nursing. Would not recommend this company to anyone. Paid well but overworked and stressed out- Burn out!!!!!!!!!!!! Poorly organized and run by management.
long hours, forced to work, stay after shift
