There's a reason they can't keep staff
Housekeeping (Ancien employé) –  Field, BC3 janvier 2020
Upper management does not care about employees. HR has ignored multiple complaints of harassment and inappropriate behaviour. Upper management picks favourites amongst staff. Very unprofessional environment where employees openly discuss who they're trying to get fired. Laziness is encouraged.

Staff accommodation and food is very expensive and very poor. Staff cafeteria is run by line cooks who have been demoted from the lodge. Food is often inedible, yet the meal plan is mandatory and $115 biweekly. Accommodation is shared with communal washrooms. Furniture is broken and accommodation is generally gross. It's also very noisy, with people often partying and running around despite requests to keep quiet.

Owners have no involvement in the running of the lodge, and refuse to put any money into much needed renovations. Salaries are low and living costs are high, making it difficult to save money. All levels of management have favourites who receive preferential treatment over other employees Laziness and poor behaviour is not punished - police were on site multiple times, and there are often fights, verbal abuse, and gossiping in staff residence. Quite a few employees are on drugs while on shift. Health and safety is not a priority for staff or guests, with toxic mold thought the buildings, icy pathways and roofs dropping snow on guests/staff. All the departments are overworked as Emerald does not punish poor behaviour and laziness, meaning many employees do not work hard as there's no point in doing so. Emerald cant keep good staff - they all leave once they see how
  plus... bad it is.

If you're wanting a job where you feel unvalued, bullied and isolated from coworkers and the real world, take a job at Emerald. If you want a job where your time is respected, you get to live and eat decently, and don't have to worry about theft, injury and abuse at home and at work, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

They promote incompetence
HOUSEKEEPING ATTENDANT (Employé actuel) –  Field, BC9 octobre 2019
The entire 8 months of working here have been stressful, to say the least. First of all, this place is managed by young adults (children; who know absolutely nothing in regards to labour laws or managing properly)
You are treated as if you’re disposable. They promote incompetence. None of the rooms are cleaned even close to standards, by the same people who get promoted. The housekeeping management in general is seriously declining. In the 8 months I’ve been here, we’ve had three different housekeeping managers alone... which should say a lot about emerald itself. It’s almost a miracle to see a housekeeper last here longer than a month.
On top of that, the staff residence is a joke. It’s full of black mould which you can see through the open ceiling tiles throughout the building (disgusting). After 3 months of living in residence, I noticed significant sinus issues that are still ongoing. The residence leaks year round into your rooms and common areas. They house up to 4 people per room, with absolutely disgusting conditions they expect you to live in. Living in residence, you’re subjected to tons of drugs and alcohol involuntarily and constant partying non stop. Some of the individuals living here are not mentally suited in this kind of environment. 4 police occurrences involving other employees due to violence has occurred since I’ve been here; which is terrifying to say the least. The residence is a very toxic environment.
As well as the accommodations being terrible, the food isn’t too off as well. Other employees here including myself, are constantly sick from the
plus... lack of care that goes into making the food. There are serious risks for cross contamination, and staff cafe never gets checked by the health department (kitchen supervisor confirmed this). The only thing going for this place are the beautiful mountain views you get to see everyday. Besides that, it’s not worth your mental or physical health.  moins

Horribly managed front desk department
Front Desk Agent (Ancien employé) –  Field, BC24 mai 2019
If you are thinking of taking the front desk position, run. You will be overworked, get no breaks, be forced to eat your cold meals on shift by gobbling up bites in between guests. The management in this department is a joke. This lodge is no longer cared about by its owners, guests are constantly unhappy and nothing is ever done about it. It’s a beautiful setting though
Points positifs
Good coworkers, great access to beautiful wilderness
Points négatifs
Poorly managed, overworked, no breaks

Beautiful view and free canoeing for staff
Housekeeper (Ancien employé) –  Field, BC3 novembre 2017
Nature life in emerald lake, no signal there and wifi is weak.
We have shuttle bus for us to work but just 15 minutes by walk.
Emerald lake lodge provides accommodation and three meals for all staffs.

Fast paced workplace, high workload, no staff
Server (Ancien employé) –  Field, BC10 octobre 2017
There was always plenty of work to be done at Emerald Lake, with the hotel capacity frequently high and the lack of staff working each shift meant for a busy day where the rush never seemed to stop. I was able to quickly improve my service skills and learnt how to work efficiently under pressure.
Points positifs
Lack of managerial support meant, more responsibility on the server, for me this was a pro, as I like to have more responsibility and control.
Points négatifs
Lack of staff meant there was more pressure on the server during busy periods, which could sometimes be a littler overwhelming.

Fun workplace in a great location
Woodsman (Ancien employé) –  Field, BC13 juillet 2017
A typical day at work consisted of waking up, catching the shuttle to work, and immediately beginning duties. The work load was steady but never overwhelming, and management were always fair. The culture in the workplace was one of friendliness, as every worker knew and lived with each other in a shared living arrangement, which fostered great interpersonal relationships between us. The best part of the job was the sense of community, the worst was the remote location and lack of internet access.

fun and rewarding experience
HOUSEKEEPER (Ancien employé) –  British Columbia4 octobre 2015
Good place to work and learn in. An isolated location which means there is a constant high turnover of staff which changes the working and living environment drastically.
