Fun workplace but nowhere to advance

This workplace is fun but there is very low tips with the amount of work you do which doesn’t balance out. Managers don’t communicate well with staff as they make all the staff communicate with each other which just opens doors for drama, which is handled really poorly with no sense of acknowledgement or discipline. Good place to start working but would not recommend staying for too long as everyone comes and goes and there’s no where to advance

-Shift hours can vary; sometimes a shift can last as long as 3 hours to some days an expected 3 hours shift can turning into a 5-10 hour shift (obviously depending on management, as well as employee availability)

-Long periods of standing and walking; this is a known hazard within many workplaces so wear proper insoles and shoes (usually non-slips) that follow the workplaces H&S policies and procedures to prevent sore or swelling of the feet and back pain
-Repeated use of trays may cause some wrist pain

-Varieties of guests with different personalities and cultures visit this family restaurant chain, knowing how to communicate with them appropriately and respectfully is very important to ensure optimal customer satisfaction

-Constant verbal communication between FOH and BOH is mandatory to ensure smooth operations
-Team work is one of the biggest part of this place- which involves a lot of strong communication- as a result, you build friendships and become a workplace family

-Proper execution of dishes from BOH to FOH is very important to ensure customer satisfaction and of course, a hot meal; assisting your Expo is necessary
-Serve multiple dishes to designated tables
-Monitoring side hutches and server station supply levels repeatedly and restocking when necessary
-Monitor multiple tables of guests

-Management is usually very flexible with employee hours

-The most difficult part of the job can be the table flip times, which makes this a very fast-paced stressful environment.

For example, you can have multiple tables requesting multiple items
  plus... and have issues/complaints all at the same time- which consumes time needed to tend all guests- this can be very stressful if not handled properly and effectively. Therefore, strong time management skills are required to manage multiple tables.

I found the staff did not take the time to properly train me to excel quickly. I found myself having to really use my problem solving skills a lot. Making salads and pizzas.

Great staff, a lot of drama, fast paced, not many shifts, gets boring after a while. No paid vacation days, however, great management, so understanding and will help you work through your schedule

Overall when I worked at east side Marios I loved it! It was my first job and I worked as a hostess. Most people were very enjoyable to work with. I have so many fun memories from working there. Some downsides are that that shifts are short. You can show up for a shift and they can send you home in like 15 minutes and only pay you for the 15 minutes! The management is also not very good. The managers pick favourites definitely when it comes to scheduling! Most managers are very understanding though and If you forgot to book off a day and you really need it off they'll most likely tell you it's okay. For anyone looking for a first job or a second job this place is definitely great for that!

I cannot say for any other ESM out there, but this review is for the location I worked at. This does not apply to any other East Sides out there.

This East Sides was the absolute WORST due to the childish, hands off approach employed by the General Manager and owner.

They employ guilt tactics on their employees on the regular, they drink and party at their own bar, they flirt with their female employees, they shove their work load on everyone else, they ask for free labour... I could go on. They're incredibly shady. You cannot go to these two supposed "leaders" with any problem, lest they accuse you of being the problem.

A majority of us are paid min wage and are expected to do and juggle a mountain of work. By the time I left, the remainder of the kitchen was incredibly understaffed to the point that the management tried to force the kitchen to word more than they usually do.

All of the equipment is breaking down, and at least half the fridges do not work correctly.

The management will not give you a raise no matter how much you sacrifice for them.

The only real positive I can say about this ESM are about the bonds I created with my co-workers. This place is such a toxic environment due to the managements that we all work hard for each others sake to make this place as bearable as it could be.

Please do not consider working at this location, especially in the kitchen. You will hate yourself if you do. Find a place that will respect you.

Dying brand. They fail to maintain service standards, low pay and poor work culture. Also, very high staff turn over. Management does not spend anytime developing, but rather fills your head with false promises. Head office comes in and doesn’t acknowledge anyone but general manager and chef. It’s a joke.

Dinner and weekends are very busy, you have to be able to work in a fast paced environment but coworkers and management are quick to help, management also resolves conflict effectively and the customers are normally satisfied. Guests are usually happy with their meals and enjoy the food. When in school especially, the job flexibility is amazing and they always accommodated. Great place to work.

Stressful and intense for little money.

Very challenging place to work. Fast paced. Not a good place for a beginner server. Experience and efficiency are definitely mandatory for this type of serving. A lot is expected from you.. too many tables per server. Sections are too big and steps of service are extensive.

I loved the people I worked with when i started there, but with little to no advancement within the restaurant, as well refusal to properly compensate people for their hard work and effort they put in. Never allowed short breaks unless you are on a split or youre a smoker, and the management is the worst i have ever seen in my life.

A typical day working here is you come in, get dressed, sign in and prep foods for throughout the day. Prepare your sanitized water, organize and stock up yours and other staffs stations then wait for the orders to roll in. I learned that working in the kitchen can be a lot of work since you're working with food you have to be precise with cleaning,handling and the preparation and making of the menu items, utensils and your area. The hardest part of working here was Keeping up with a lot of orders and trying not to get overwhelmed.

A gross place to work

If you were a great worker you got taken advantage of, but if you were a poor worker you got away with everything. The staff didn't get trained well and the costumers were terrible. Working in a tourist location and having to deal with people who were incredible rude.
