under utilization of staff
Regular employee (Ancien employé) –  Alberta8 avril 2019
Management expects staff to bring connections and opportunities to the office and will allow staff to be critically underutilized for weeks on end . Senior staff often forgets who is on the teams and will resort to cronyism without consideration of workload/underutilized staff. Overtime/sick time is expected to be used up if you have no project work, and senior staff forgets what qualifications and experience the junior staff have. If your clever and ambitious you will be ignored, unless you come from Ontario.

Instead of branching into the industry sectors that require servicing, or putting up booths at trade shows and conferences the company would prefer to engage in gimmicky business activities such as luggage monitoring to expand brand recognition.

Good coffee though.
Points positifs
Able to study philosophy and improve software skillsets when not being used
Points négatifs
Under employed, ignored, expected to be mediocre

It would be nice if training was provided on their overall business. Company is more geared towards civil and other disciplines are sometimes neglected.

Limited room to advance.

Great experience
Intern (Ancien employé) –  Oakville, ON19 mars 2018
During this intern position I was able to gain experience in different areas of the field such as research projects, AutoCAD projects, creating cost lists for contractors as well as going out to the field for meetings.
I reviewed and edited plans for clients and help design the workplace exterior garden.
I worked with other engineers that were part of the same projects and learned a lot about plant types and really enjoyed being a part of a company that improves the quality of living.

Cannot recommend working here
Engineer in Training (Ancien employé) –  Saskatoon, SK21 janvier 2018
Poor local management and frequent belittling and bullying tactics used to manipulate jr staff.

Inconsistent project work leads to stockpiling by managers to make sure they have work flow regardless of jr staff utilization.

Project managers often force jr staff to do project work while charging hrs to admin time to save on project budgets. This lowers utilization rates and makes jr staff less likely to achieve pay raises or advance in the company.

Company has great HR policies and talks a lot about work/life balance, unfortunately these policies are not followed on a local level.

Company talk a lot about being employee own but shares and annual bonuses only really benefit Associates and Partners. Full time regular staff do not receive bonuses and are so limited in the number of shares they can purchase that the dividends received are minimal.

During project work, hrs of work expected were unhealthy and unsustainable. (Sometimes over 100hrs/week, 7 days) Management would push field staff to maintain and exceed these hrs but when confronted would blame field staff for working the hrs management had forced upon them.

Engineers or EITs are hired to do field technolgist work with no clear plans or path to develop or advance within the company. At times local management turned away more fulfilling and more technical work for their jr staff so that they could keep their team on standby for field supervision.
Points positifs
Free parking, decent health/dental benefits
Points négatifs
Poor management, average-to-below average pay

Data Collection Summary
DATA COLLECTOR (Ancien employé) –  Ottawa, ON7 avril 2017
Typical day entailed data collection of parked cars on city streets and recording them into the appropriate place.

I learned how to deal with the public if they thought I was city by-law or had questions as to the nature of work.

The hardest part of the job was the amount of walking I had to do, but at the same time I got my exercise.
Points positifs
Lots of walking, did not have to work in poor weather conditions
Points négatifs
Repetititve work

lowest job security you can imagine
Environmental EIT (Ancien employé) –  Winnipeg, MB27 novembre 2016
There is no job security there and you can get fired without being given any reason! It is a very strange workplace and I DO NOT recommend working there to anybody. Job description is so different from what you are going to do. Employee are discriminated! I always felt like I'm a foreigner.

Productive, Calm, and Encouraging workplace
Field Technician (Ancien employé) –  Surrey, BC23 septembre 2016
The position I worked was as a Field Technician in the SHaRP Program, which is available as a worker to those who are student aged and are looking for entry level work.
The typical day would consist of driving out to your work location, doing an on-site hazard assessment, the beginning to work on whatever was the assigned project for that location.
Management was friendly and great to talk to, but was also firm with their expectations. Co-workers were all roughly the same age group, so it was easy to get along with them in both the workplace and outside of work hours.
The most difficult part of your day would be if you were working outside in a hot environment with little to no shade cover, in which you would find yourself sweating and working hard.
Overall,Dillon Consulting is a great employer for those looking for seasonal work within the SHaRP Program. I cannot say much about working within the offices, but those who I did have contact were friendly and agreeable.
Points positifs
Friendly Staff
Points négatifs
Long hours, Environmental conditions (Outdoors)

Very fun place to work at, but contract work was sporadic.
City Representative & Field Assistant (Ancien employé) –  Richmond, BC28 juillet 2016
Really enjoyed the team at Dillon. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. I did contact work with them for a while until the contracts for my specialty stopped coming in. I still get offers for the odd short term [weekend work normally] every so often and always enjoy going back.

engineer (Ancien employé) –  Toronto, ON22 décembre 2015
the company policies sound good but only on the paper; the company treats its employees without respect, and HR is there not to help the employee at all.
