could not wait to find another job after i started working here. the air inside makes you feel like you got off an airplane by the end of a 3 hour shift. the heating/cooling is russian roulette and was almost always too hot or too cold and never a good room temperature. management is a mess and the head of the company and the managers around the city dont get along and makes the environment much worse. only get a job for them out of desperation.
It was fun when there were a lot of costumers since it helped the time pass by quicker, but sometimes it would be slow. Associates have to clean up their section of the store when customers are not around and help out the "shoe lovers" find anything they need.
Working here was so much fun and such a great experience! However there was one assistant manager at my store that was not very nice and he was on the bad side of a lot of the staff. and the higher up staff wouldn't listen to what we had to say....
If you are looking to progress in your career, do not apply here. A very stressful atmosphere, nonsensical methods of planning, and a "throw-others-under-the-bus" attitude. Capable employees are not valued, only the ones who brown-nose upper management. A very negative environment.
A fun workplace, most customers very nice and respectful. The co-workers are fantastic to get to know and are all amazing people. I've been here for two years and I've learned so much not only from the job but my co-workers as well.
Poor work/life balance. Zero management skills. Nasty workplace culture. Gossip-based environment. Avoid if you can, approach at your own risk. There are plenty of companies out there that will value your work and who you are as a person, unlike Designer Brands: The Shoe Company, Shoe Warehouse and DSW.
Associate (Employé actuel) - Millstream, BC - 7 mars 2020
ive learned so much at this job and the people i worked with are so nice.
a typical day looks like : you walk trough the side door of the main entrance you sign in and your job is to clean and help customer.
I served the company more than a year, management keeps playing with associates. When they need they will give any position to associates or will fire them when they want. Managers can not even properly write in English.
A typical day at work would be cleaning the store and keeping it tidy, as well as helping customers and working on the cash. I would also find and process web orders, along with calling customers to let them know their package arrived. I learned more about dealing with hard customers and problem-solving. While I was there we went through a lot of managers and some were very bad but then we got a very good and devoted manager.
Where do I even start with this company
Unorganized, put WAY too much pressure on the associates to make sales, extreme pressure to get customers signed up for the rewards program.
If you didn't hit a certain number of signups during your shift, you were 'talked' to and pretty much made to feel bad about people not wanting to give out their information.
Working at the location I did was great for a while until new management came in and then things started going bad.
The assistant manger of that location is a mean person who will go out of her way to make you feel bad for even a simple mistake
Store Manager does whatever she likes. Spends most of her time in the office and radios to make sure us associates are doing our jobs. She bad mouths other employees to us to make herself look better. Little to no training and then complains we don’t know what we are doing. Barrie location - not the best.
What I learned at shoe warehouse was how to be a good leader and how to better my problem solving skills. I did not have much experience in that part of any retail establishment I had the pleasure working with and I am great full for what I learned.
