Nowhere near enough hours to survive, with changes to your schedule several times a week

When covid hit, we were all laid off, and then left in the dark until the company closed the majority of their stores. When that happened, media heard about it before workers did.

the job’s not hard but at the end of the day, all they obviously care about is milking as much money from the public as possible (and will constantly stress you about it). sure they’ll work around your school schedule, but at some point if you are dealing with serious life changes that effect you mentally/emotionally, management especially will not care and make you feel bad for it. also, most of the staff are two faced and will seem the sweetest to customers (because they want your money) but behind closed doors they’ll say a lot of unnecessary things about people. if you want the job, they’ll base it off your personality and if it’ll fit with the team, not your experience. and if you “kiss their a**es”, they’ll favour you. overall not the most comfortable environment to work in

You can do better. They are not going to respect anything about you. YOU are a obstacle that they have to jump over to ensure that they make money and that you make as little as possible to maintain there "business".

I loved what I did and everyone at store level (including district manager) was AMAZING. However as COVID hit, uppe management was not transparent with us of their plan. They do not pay managers and key holders enough, however they do pay regular employees minimum wage. Overall, the atmosphere at a store level, and district level, was very positive and welcoming.

Don’t mislead your number 1fan your employees.
Head office lack of support and NO communication was the reason for it no longer being that young and exciting company it was a decade ago.

Overall DAVIDsTEA was almost like a spa retail job. It was very much people focused (both staff and customers) and it was refreshing. Unfortunately there was a fair bit of mismanagement and people hired for the wrong reasons.

If it had a stronger head office support and communication DT would have been an incredible and prosperous company.

The location I worked at was one of the best experiences. It was stressful at first with a lot to learn (there’s over 100 teas) but the co workers were amazing and we had lovely customers. Slowly started getting less hours because our location wasn’t a busy one. Other locations in malls could also be more stressful because workers always had to be doing something ie cleaning ... overall amazing and you get free tea during your shifts.

I was afraid I wasn't going to get the job because I did not know anything about tea, but my manager was very friendly and I learned a lot about tea and now I love it! I also loved my coworkers because they were always helping me when I needed it. Overall a great place to work!

i enjoyed working at davidstea for the most part. i think the pressure they put on you to upsell is unrealistic and you don't even get comission for what you sell, so it comes off pretty forced. they grouped the districts by loaction, but would often do district 'contest' which would be impossible to win if you were a low volume store, and an automatic free win to the high vol stores. i feel the districts should be seperated by volume to be more fair. the job taught me a lot about leadership and communication skills and the 50% discount was nice. something i really didn't like about the brand is that they had no problem scheduling their employees until 12am-1am to do a merch flip on christmas eve and new years eve when people should be at home with their families. especially when the average age of DT employees are teenagers/young adults.

As I was hired during Christmas time , the store used to very busy . There was a lot of customer service because we have to tell customers about all the teas, what are their preferences in taste . It increased my experience dealing with the customers .

Often times when I would open the store it would involve opening all cashes, getting the daily teas brewed and making sure to create a unique sample for customers. As manager I was required to record the sales for the previous day to help better our sales the following week. This would be the same pattern every day slotting in various order days or conference call meetings I would have to take part in.
I learned that managing a store is a large task and it can be done with a lot less stress if you put the proper planning into your days and allocate your time properly.

Management was a little tough at times as many things would be pushed forward or pushed back causing tremendous confusion among managers. Thankfully I was able to reach out to colleagues from other stores and they were very helpful with any of my questions.

The workplace culture that DAVIDs Tea goes for is an upbeat store that is full of energy and smiles. Employees are encouraged to drink all the different kinds of tea to help upsell when speaking to customers.

The hardest part of the job would have been the lack of communication between myself and management. Being a store that was located further away, it made it difficult as a new manager to catch my stride. However learning how to delegate certain tasks to employees helped take a bit off my workload.

The most enjoyable part was all the customers and tea I was able to drink. I would love walking around the mall offering samples to people as many people don't realize how delicious tea when you make it the proper way.

I LOVE working here. We have some amazing customers and we have some really good conversations. My co-workers are all incredible. It’s generally a pretty relaxed and fun environment, except around Christmas it gets pretty crazy. We get to drink free tea on our shift, so that by itself is a great perk. I enjoy coming to work every shift!
However; it’s not all daisies and rainbows. Upper management (DM and up) are a joke. They don’t treat everyone equally. They come visit the store and tell you to your face that you’re doing a great job. Then a week later they tell the store manager to write you up for something with no warning. They also punish you by cutting your hours if you ever bring up a valid complaint. No transparency from upper managers to TeaGuides.

I fell in love with David’s Tea as a company. The mall I worked in was not ideal but the employees and the management were quite incredible. They were so understanding of my work, school balance and it was honestly the best place to work as a first ever job.

My experience at DAVIDsTEA was a fun retail job with cute perks and a good team. I can see the work culture being a bit overbearing if you don't want to exude positivity all the time and constantly trying to upsell, but I had a lot of fun learning about tea and talking to people. Part time tea guides get VERY limited hours however, so this is not a position to support yourself with, its moreso to supplement

It used to be an amazing place to evolve but since they entered the stock market, things have gone corporate. Sadly, your personnality and your difference isn't a valid trait anymore.

Only worked at davids tea for a seasonal period but did not want to continue work. Stressful environment not interested in continuing work as it was not the pace I was looking for.

I worked with fantastic staff, this made the job a lot more enjoyable. The work got very busy at times, especially in the Summer. Unlimited tea drinks throughout the day was very good.

Travailler chez David's tea est très enrichissant. Une des meilleures compagnie dans laquelle j'ai travailler . Proche des gens avec qui nous travaillons à tout les niveaux . Les grand patrons prennent le temps de visiter et PARLER avec leurs gens en boutique, ce qui fait réellement une différence au sein de l'équipe de plancher . Ont se sens très écouté et très humains. Compagnie humaine qui aide ses gens a tout les niveaux.
