I love the team i work with and the people we support. I would not have been here as long as I have if it were not for them. My Manager is more of a friend and support to me.
Friendly people, great benefits, HR a call away
I wish i could go back to school to get certification for this work
Best job I have ever had. I worked in children and youth services, to begin with this was daunting but once I was settled in it was an amazing opportunity. I was very supported by management through personal issues.
on-going training, management, supports and benefits
The best part of this job is seeing first hand how societies most vunerable people are so well care for.
It's very reward career. There is much to learn and a lot of long time employees that are willing to share their expertise. Support workers tend to be very intelligent, gentle, calm and empathetic. Thus, a great work culture. CSCL has a very high standar of care for the individuals in the program and that makes me feel proud and honored to be part of it. It can take a while to get a line.
Old staff bullied , manager was not supportive. It was discrimnarion but they let it go and I decided to raise the issue. No action taken . and certainly not last to complain

Thanks for taking the time to provide a review. CSCL is committed to providing a positive environment with a diverse work force. We have policy and processes in place for employees at all levels in the organization to provide input and resolve any disputes. The union also provides shop stewards that can be contacted for assistance in resolving any issues.

Thanks for your review. CSCL has been providing services in Chilliwack for over 65 years, and is grateful for its more than 350 employees who provide quality, individualized supports to people with diverse abilities.
I have been an employee with CSCL for over 9 years and have been given the opportunity to advance and grow in my career here. I commend the leadership and management team for taking on tough situations and working collaboratively to find solutions. Having a positive impact on peoples lives is very rewarding.
This agency is poorly run they put on a good face for the public, but their management decisions are almost criminal. The safety of the individuals are not the first concern for most of the leadership. If you disagree with the way they run the agency you are black listed or forced out. So much that should be reported to CLBC isn't. Things are swept under the rug on a regular basis.
They could care less about their employees will burn out employees, then if employees say they are burnt out they are told to bad it's your job.

Hostile environment .I love working with the clients and their families but the workplace culture at CSCL was very hostile. The most enjoyable part of the job was the happiness of being there for the clients to achieve their goals for the day.
Hostile environment to work
There is a massive gap between what Cscl says they do, their mandate and policy, and what actually takes place. Most of the managers are inept. They seem to believe their job is to harass and second guess, micromanage staff which gets in the way of some great support staff actually doing their jobs, supporting their individuals. It’s supposed to be person-centered support but managers always get in the way, telling our individuals what they need and want. Managers are also adversarial with most staff, and are over-the-top passive aggressive. Cscl directors are more invested in officially saying all the right things, than in actually doing all the right things. What sounds good, sound bites. Optics, marketing. It’s a mess. But cover it up with ill-got accreditations and marketing rather than actually addressing the problems. Management is exploitive, asking staff to work for free on weekends or evenings.. the expectation under implied threat that if you don’t cooperate.... They don’t seem to care about the employment standards act. They definitely don’t care about their staff. Expendable. Surprising, considering the sector they’re doing business in. I never understood why Cscl hates its staff so much. So disrespectful and unprofessional. Obviously there is a reason for such rapid staff turnover. Cscl directors set up an employee questionnaire allowing staff to review their employer. Give honest feedback. Seems like a great thing, right? Well Cscl called it an “anonymous” questionnaire, but then issued every staff person an unique identifying number they had to attach to their - plus...
Relationships with the clients that we try to support
Top heavy Cscl seeing clients as contracts / paycheques, not as individuals
CSCL hires pretty much anyone, always short staff and they hire people with no experience or education. It is somewhat a rewarding job, however, the work culture is terrible. Management support each other. Supervisors are not trained and experienced. They do not know how to solve conflict and often blamed people instead. My co-workers were dysfunctional, back stabbing, and talked about other staff members. Very negative and toxic environment to work in.
Free lunches and dinners
Unpleasant work environment
Large organization with unlimited opportunity for rewarding work. Supportive management and peers. Above average benefits. Great work and home life balance.
Supportive work place
contracts are often part-time
This is a fantastic place to work. For the mostpart, all of the people I work with are kindhearted and accepting. Lots of opportunity for upward mobility.
Very Healthy Work Culture
Wages and Benefits Could be Better
It took me time to realize that work culture do suffer from racism and bullying. I reported my experience to all management - I just didnt want anyone else to go through. Nothing personal but management has to do a lot to make check that there is no discrimination.
Good people, Good HR
No support for worker
positive environment, allows me to give care one to one to the individuals; therefore it is less stressful.
A typical shift for me consists in providing personal care , preparing and serving meals, assisting the individuals with their scheduled outings. The hardest part of the job is not being able to correctly perform transfers because of the inadequate equipment.
low workload, free lunches
I live working at Cscl, it's a very rewarding job being there for the men giving them quality of life. We're out and about in the community giving them the opportunity to meet new people. I would recommend to everyone that it's a great place to work
Giving the clients quality of life
Client were fantastic, management needed some work. Supervisors did not know how to solve conflict and often blamed people instead. My co-workers were for the most part pretty good, but they were just as dysfunctional.
