The salary of a mere front desk agent is exceedingly great. The workplace is very friendly with amazing people around. The general manager himself will greet you and speak to you. The managers here are amazing and will give you every opportunity to grow. I hate that I had to leave this place for a different role.
Interesting job, freedom of work.
Excellent company. Mgmt is very good, most of the team members are good (Most)....plenty of activities, discounted food n Bev options.
Overall an excellent company and management. Growth is difficult. Supervisors have a tough time in F&B, they work hard. Servers are well protected. Pay is good for morning staff. Evening staff are mostly dependent on tips. Excellent benefits. All the department heads are very approachable. Friendly. HR manager is good so is the staff, GM takes extra care n is very energetic. Overall an excellent company. F&B Mgr n management is very very helpful and they really care. Sometimes one odd supervisor acts little cocky....but a 5 star rating.
Great benefits, excellent team, and mgmt.
No weekends of new employees but as you progress it gets better.
When I first started there it was great then they wanted me to work overtime and I did but then they wouldn't pay me. I was told to take time off for the overtime but then when I wanted to take time off I was told I couldn't take time off there was never a good time to take this time off. The other thing that they're good for is writing people up, you hear it threatened daily.
Management is never satisfied

It was a great place to work! I love getting to know the employees on a more personal level instead of treating them like a number.Food was incredible, management was very open and available.I’d definitely go back in a heartbeat.
No employee incentives. Stared almost a year ago and just received the paperwork to fill out for my benifits
I like my co workers but I can't survive as a single parent on the wages or the hours I receive. I am never sure when I go to work if I will be there for 8 hours or less.
Wages, Hours are not consistant with a full time position I was hired for
As a waiter at Courtyard by Marriott, the benefits of the job were only evident when the hotel was busy. When the hotel was busy, work was more fast-paced, more tips, when the hotel was dead, work was slow, and money was low.
Worked there for 3 years as a night audit only raise i got was mandated by the government. We were good for a while but got a new manager who thinks only women should work at night at the bistro because "men like to look at girls when they are done work" also when he fired me he told me he could sue me because i told him to go f himself. He tried to tell someone after working over time they don't pay overtime.. So illegal.

I worked here as a room attendant. I would not recommend. The pay was poor, the supervisor and the management was poor. The pay here was minimum wage while other places were getting above. This place is just all around unprofessional.
Marriott has great benefits and this is a managed hotel. Not sure about the management right now as the hotel has gone through a lot of changes in the last few years. Uncertainty regarding building development. Otherwise, a fun place to be.
I moved to Halifax, with previous Marriott experience in Ottawa. I was welcomed with open arms and truly loved my positions with the Courtyard by Marriott Halifax Downtown. I started out at the Front Desk, and was then promoted to Front Desk Supervisor within three months as one of our Supervisors left. It was a great opportunity for me so early on in the hotel game. After approx. 1.5 years I took the opportunity to apply for the Sales & Meetings Coordinator position that had opened up. I got the job and was in that position for 1.5 years and absolutely loved it. The only reason that I left was because of a relocation to Moncton where I continued on in the hotel world. I am grateful for the team at the CY Halifax Downtown and truly learned a lot there!
Opportunity for Growth
Salary a bit low...
Great company.Friendly family atmosphere, very different to anywhere else I've worked. Lots of opportunities to learn new skills and make the role your own, the free lunch is a bonus. Given autonomy as a manager which is good Trusted but given space to grow and develop Great people who are always helpful and love to collaborate Flexible working which helps if you don’t live close to the office Good lunches Salary is paid as per market rate which is very fair and also refreshing Have some great products which have huge potential The CEO is a great guy and cares about what we …
It's fun to work at a hotel! Decent pay, you don't smell like grease or coffee at the end of your shift, and you get benefits if you're full time. It isn't an enjoyable workplace when the management is lenient to other employees and the rest are constantly in check. The job is fairly easy once you get the hang of it all. Personally, the most difficult part of the job is when guests complain about things that are not under your control. It's also difficult to do your job when half of the things you do require working equipment, but none of them is in good condition. Constantly adjusting your time card so they don't pay your overtime. The most enjoyable part of the job is when most of your work is done and the rest of your shift is just waiting for the next person to replace you. Have the right people working with you so your shifts are fun. Find a job with great management where you don't feel like holding your breath everytime they pass by.
meeting different guests of all backgrounds, working with multi-cultural employees
lack of recognition, rules only apply to people they don't like, too strict
i learned so many things that will help me in my upcoming future and hoping for better tomorrow. it was amazing as having my first job over there because i got a chance and interact to many people who belong to other culture.
good salary scales
great place to work to gain more knowledge about the industry. Gained a lot of useful experience here. Management could be better and there is sometimes workplace drama. Overall good place to gain knowledge if you are passionate about hospitality. Hours are not evenly spread out.
free meals, coworks, hours, no benefits are part time
long hours, uniforms, workplace style policy.
