My workplace is both in my home and in the community. My clients set the pace and the requirements for the day.
Community Support Worker/Private Contractor (Employé actuel) – Kelowna, BC – 13 février 2014
Contracting with CLBC has been a fabulous experience. I wear many hats in this role and am challenged to access different skills on a daily basis depending on the client I am working with. Learning to have patience and grace for others has been one of the greatest gift to me in doing this work. Offering those with specific challenges in life unconditional support emotioinally, physically, vocationally and medically is an honour to me.
The hardest part of what I do would have to be knowing that for most of my clients, things won't get better...more than likely their health will deteriorate if anything. As well as knowing that government supports are limited making if difficult for these individuals to live full and active lives.
I make my own hours which allows me quite a bit of freedom. I love my work, which really isn't work, it is more of a lifestyle.
The work I do is 24/7. Days off are rare, holidays are rare.
