Workplace can be challenging

Workplace can be difficult, with staff who are grandfathered in or minimum education and have been working for 20+ years who are resistant to change or different approaches.

Very unorganized, poor overall management communication, low staff morale causing a negative work environment

From the interview, to my first and last day with the agency, as well as every shift in-between, there was a negative environment that included poor communication and an overall unorganized atmosphere. It is to be expected that working in this type of field, changes and unpredictability take place constantly so a well rounded management, supervisor and staff team is important to keep programs running efficiently. Sadly, this was not my experience nor that of many from feedback shared while there. It took over a month from when I had accepted my job offer to when I had actually started on shift. There was several weeks of unorganized run around for completing pre hire paperwork, cancelling and rescheduling several full day trainings as well as picking a location for me to work. During this time, I lost out on several hundred dollars from my other job attempting to accommodate CLB schedule. I had made it known before hire, I am very flexible but I worked another job and had to be mindful with my schedule notice of change. This also consisted of several other last minute emails from management with changes, if there were any emails or notifications sent at all. As a result in the lack of organization, I did not receive half of the required week long, pre hire training nor did I learn how to navigate their main program used for client documentation. I was not provided with access to this database that is deemed essential for staff success with clients. It was expected I would be on shift at all times with a staff member who did have access however, this did not happen. It states -

Points positifs

The pay, sleep shifts, clients, shift duties, responsibilities, several departments and opportunities to work them, lots of hours.

Points négatifs

Overall communication, organization, management, supervisors, cross agency/staff gossip, low staff morale, staff acknowledgment

Just the worst

Stay away from this job and this line of work if you can.The job is stressful and demanding. You are expected to do a lot and to navigate a lot of concerns - from unstable parents to clumsy, ineffective management. The extra pay compared to what other places are paying these days is not worth it.Management is a joke. They will drag their heels and not do anything, until you do something wrong, then all the sudden they are VERY present. The most active I have seen HR was when they bungled a PR issue, annoyed the whole community, and then threatened to penalize us for saying ANYTHING online. I was repeatedly ignored as a new worker, never given a performance review, and, thanks to the Ontario government, any and all work in the future will be with a PAY CUT, thanks to inflation.I am better off on my own.

None

Points négatifs

Long hours, exhausting work, ineffective management, terrible pay
Avez-vous trouvé cet avis utile?

Toxic work environment

Unpaid and unappreciated for the work and care involved. Would not recommend CLNG, poor leadership… push staff and are unwilling to “chip in”. Management are unwilling to work the way they expect of staff.

Points positifs

Potentially flexible schedule

Points négatifs

Favourtism among employees

Great service users and resident's...friendly staff

Enjoyed working here mostly. The management is a bit of an old girls club and can be quite oppressive and not fair. Human Resources tends to do whatever management says, even when it's not right or factual. Management will lie to your face, so be careful. Not enough money to live off of.

Points positifs

Great residents, fun work environment before covid

Points négatifs

Management, salary, very budget orientated.

Fulfilling but needs improvement

It’s a very fulfilling job and the staff and people supported are amazing to work with but my only issue with this agency is the management isn’t very accommodating to family life

Points positifs

Great pay and fulfilled at the end of a shift

Points négatifs

Very long hours, risks of getting hurt and management needs improvement

Toxic, HUGE pay differences.

Worked here for a few years. Started off great. Like my team, management. Things changed when upper management changed and supervisors began to move around and a few quit. The difference in pay is what is really awful about this place. Part time make UP to $22.00, fulltime aren’t much more BUT the so called house leaders are at $26/27 a hour. The only responsibility that these people have is taking clients to dr. and some extra paper work. A lot of the duties are shared around the house and the house wouldn’t run without part time and fulltime staff and there’s no appreciation for it. Appointments and even that was a struggle sometimes and they would get out of it and make us go. They get a “papers day” which consists of them coming in at 9 and leaving at 12. The environment is toxic. Gossip. Everyone hates everyone but is fake towards each other. No one really cares for the clients. They take them for drives. Work /home balance is tough. Sometimes made to stay on shift if staff call in. At least compensated double time for that. But have to wait hours before approved to pick up a shift when someone calls in. I loved the clients I worked with. Wish I could say the same for the staff and management.

Points positifs

Making a difference in people’s life’s

Points négatifs

Management, difference in pays, schedule not consistent

Great place to work

Staff are nice and supervisors and management are quick to answer your questions or help when a promise arises. Everyone is treated fairly if you do your job and not slack you’ll be good.

Points positifs

People we support

Points négatifs

You need to be a dsw to qualify for certain positions regardless of experience- its unionized

Awful company culture

Unionized employees spend most of their time trying to figure out how to get out of work. Union reps only look for opportunities to cause conflict and are not interested in finding solutions that help employees. Many employees who should have retired a long time ago, especially in management

Points positifs

Close to home

Points négatifs

Poor pay, weak management, useless union

Toxic work environment

The management micromanages and seem to enjoy reprimanding their staff. It is difficult to get time off as there are not enough staff to cover. The employees in the homes are burnt out and miserable. This was not a good experience. I feel sorry for the people living in these group homes.

Points positifs

Clean group homes

Points négatifs

Managment

Every day brings something new

Have worked with the company for more than 3 years, and I've found myself consistently challenged to be a better professional. Each day brings with it new opportunities to success, and I've met and learned from some pretty incredible people along the way.

Points positifs

Professional Development, Small tokens of Appreciation

Points négatifs

Sometimes extra hours

Must love working with clients with developmental disabilities

Your have to be focused on the needs of the clients at all time because they are your priority.I always gave my 101% because they deserve the Best! It’s unfortunate that you encounter toxic staff, managers and even some bad apples 🍎 higher at the very top but overall I keep fond memories of all the clients and staff that know me as a caring and respectful person.

Points négatifs

Long hours (stuck in doubles) toxic environment

Competitive Wages, Consistent Work, Poor Work/Life Balance

My review pertains strictly to the part-time positions at CLL. The pay is competitive and you receive a block of shifts that never change. You have the opportunity to pick up shifts on top of your block if you choose. The training the agency provides (and compensation for training) is incredible and very relevant to your work in the homes. There are many opportunities to grow as a professional and really make your work with the people supported meaningful and impactful. Staff within the homes are supportive, helpful, and always encouraging of one another. Work/life balance is poor if you work another job. CLL rarely approves part-time vacation requests (despite part-time being entitled to 2 weeks of the year, unpaid). A lot of part-time staff admit to feeling burn-out due to this. Definitely try to plan your life around your block of shifts if you ever want to take time away.

Points positifs

Competitive wages, Consistent shifts

Authoritative management and HR

Management/HR treat staff as if they are children, it's a very oppressive environment to work in. Burnout is high due to lack of support from managers

A good place to work!

Fantastic individuals are supported and the agency philosophy aligns with my own. Management is cOnsiderate and easy to deal with and usually supports their in employees. I enjoyed my time here.

Points positifs

Very toxic environment

The work schedule is designed to suit the needs of the full timers in which they represent only 15 % of the overall employees , lots of manual paper work which takes lots of time, the pay is the worst at $19 for frontliner workers meanwhile the management are making the sunshine list.

Points positifs

Non

Points négatifs

Schedule changes every 6 weeks, low pay, no benefits, high turn over.

Fun and awesome place

Very friendly place- busy at times-clients are great. can be long hours during the weekend but there’s always something to do- and residents are great to be around and care for.

Points positifs

Teamwork

Points négatifs

Long hours

Good in terms of gaining experience

You will learn from this place and take knowledge with you but the organization is terrible here. Management is very poor as there eis a lot of power struggles. Staffs physical safety and job security is very poor. You will understand what your personal levels are. How to manage your patience and where you fit/belong. Good only for first job.

Points positifs

Some experience

Points négatifs

The entire company
Avez-vous trouvé cet avis utile?

Management is horrible

Work has become checking boxes off. Management micromanaged and sucks the life out of you. “Person centered” is a box you check for ministry, the individuals lives have completely been stifled. Management is petty, unprofessional and inexperienced. They act on gossip and foster a workplace of throwing each other under the bus. It’s management heavy, they’ve added layers of management and complain they have no money.

Points positifs

The individual residents

Points négatifs

Everything management

It was an ok work place.

Hours were good, job was what was described, no unpleasant surprises. Chances to move up in the company if desired. Could work at other locations if desired.

Very stressful agency

CLT is run like a company. They say that the priority is the clients, and that is far from the truth! They never have money or funding for the clients. I worked at a home for Autistic youth which had some youth running out the front door, others engaging in property destruction, some who break into the kitchen and break the cupboard to get out knives or touch the stove when it is on, etc... Often times I was the only staff there from 8 AM-11 AM needing to get clients on the bus and manage all of the others and their behaviours. Plus being a case manager, I still had to do my paperwork. The clients were not the issue, the clients were communicating things and management would not listen or care. I had supervisors that did try very hard to support us and the clients and get more funding, but management NEVER cared! The pay was also garbage. I made more money as a relief worker and part-time than I did as a case manager. To put it into perspective after I left They hired new case mamangers all who quit within the week.

Points positifs

When you are full time your schedule becomes more flexible

Points négatifs

Management is terrible and does not support the staff at all
