Overworked, overlooked, and underpaid

Avis en vedette

L'avis le plus utile, sélectionné par Indeed
Most enjoyable part of the job was the residents, their families, and many of my co-workers; however, worked a lot of overtime, with no recognition, to cover staff shortage in other department. I was only member of management who would work regular hours as scheduled. Was expected to perform multiple tasks simultaneously by ED; had no support when busy juggling multiple telephone lines while performing other reception tasks and finance-related tasks on a deadline.

Points positifs

* Free meals, *Great residents, * Decent health/dental/vision benefits, *Retirement savings

Points négatifs

* No paid meal-time (worked 8 hours, paid for 7.5), *Low salary for job expectations, *No recognition when covering/working in other departments when they were short staffed

Just terrible

Typical day at work is being attacked by other managers, continuously told that your not doing good enough, unrealistic expectations for the work environment, there is no teamwork between management, yet dietary will be consistently blamed for every problem. Overall not somewhere I would recommend. There is no work life balance and managers are expected to be at work when there is any and I mean any doesn’t matter how small, problem, and often will be told to choose between family and work even on vacation or time away from work Manager turnover is the worst I have EVER seen in any organization, they won’t give any kind of constructive feedback and will instead terminate managers left right and centre. This used to be Revera, same Revera staff = sane Revera problems

Points positifs

None

Points négatifs

Incredibly stressful, no work life balance, terrible management

good benefits and used to be union job

people working there are all hard working and respectful. Management was present but not overbearing and trusted their more senior staff to hold every one else to a great standard.

An illusion of upscale retirement living

Nothing was as it was presented to be. The building looked beautiful, but was plagued with problems including leaks, heating and cooling issues and failure of the door locks at the entrances. There wasn’t enough storage space in the basement for the number of suites in the building, so some had to make do with their limited closet space, or rent a separate storage unit offsite. Corporate cut a huge amount of hours and we’d run day to day with the minimum amount of staff possible. On days that big events were held and residents’ friends and family were present (ie: an open house, the ‘Grand Opening’), they’d ensure that we were fully staffed and had twice the usual number of employees working. The turnover rate was high for both frontline staff and management, which affects continuity of care. Staff were endlessly bombarded with requests to pick up shifts and work doubles to fill gaps in the schedule, and were promised overtime pay in return. However, staff would discover on pay day that they’d been shorted and had to chase down admin to get the money owed.

Friendly Environment

Worked with Revera for 3+ years. Environment is welcoming and friendly. Pay is good for retirement. Training for my position was poor; however, this was at the beginning of Covid pandemic when many staff left due to having to choose only one healthcare location to work. Since then, orientation, training and ongoing education has been improved.

Another company that puts on a front

The company starts out promising, then suddenly massive budget changes while trying to achieve a high standard of service is not possible. Constant excuses from management on why things weren't done. Managers act like they care, say they're there to support but will not put the work in when needed or will offer help when it's too late. Total disregard for medical & mental health. All staff are paid the same no matter the experience level! Extremely unfair work environment

Points positifs

Great health benefits, hourly employees & residents are mostly pleasant

Points négatifs

Constant sick calls & no shows, careless management that bend over backwards for shareholders and not the staff

It's okay

The residents are fun to talk to when you have some time to spare. Some coworkers will have your back if you're falling behind on tasks, but some will ignore you and start the next sitting early even when they can clearly see that you're still setting tables up.

Not perfect, but overall enjoyable

I spent five years with Revera, first in supporting roles, then in home management. I really enjoyed spending time with the residents, and I worked with some fantastic people. A few things could have been better, as it was difficult to see how some decisions were benefiting anyone other than the PSP fund and real estate partners.

Gained good experience. Had good co workers, needs to pay front line staff better. Workload is too much. Needs to do better listening to front line staff

Great Staff

I worked at a Revera home (now Extendicare) for almost 10 years and I enjoyed it. The staff work as a team which is always a bonus. I would recommend them.
