Poorly managed

Looks good on paper, not so much once you’re hired. Little to no training from management, you get shuffled around to learn from other employees. In one department there were almost more managers than employees. The work environment was very competitive, only concern was to meet targets. These target goals were pushed hard by management. If they are met, the managers get a bonus. The employees do as well, they just do all the hard work. While training, the employees were clearly annoyed with having to train a new person. Questions/inquiries were met with annoyance, rather than helpfulness. Management creates a competitive environment, were people are concerned only with getting their bonuses.

Southern Alberta ( Clean Harbors )

This company gets rid of you before your 3 months no explanation. They have very little work. Management is a Cult. You fit in or you don’t. They rip off their customers. They are always hiring for temporary positions. I applied for a position and they never even let me do that job only a couple times and stuck me on different trucks instead. Very disorganized, I honestly don’t know how they survive. Management doesn’t communicate at all. There equipment sucks. The only way they get new equipment is if the buy a new company. The pay is below average for the expectations. The only good thing is the safety culture. It’s over board but it reduces incidents. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. No exit interview so you can educate them on what changes need to be done because they just don’t care 🤷‍♂️.

Ok

I worked 4 days a week 10 hr days. I learned How to operater a vac truck and what they do. Some management was good some shouldn’t of worked there. Work place culture was good. Hardest part is carrying 6 inch hard line haha. The guys I worked with made it worth working.

Okay place, just to much favouritism

Competitive wages. Okay place to work. I worked in the surface rentals division. If we could of gotten passed the favoritism I would recommend this place without a Shadow of doubt.

Executive management couldn't care less about employees.

Shark tank culture with all employees looking over their shoulder. They will chew you up and trash you when they are done. Screwed over most employees upon leaving.

Enjoy working there

I enjoy working with my team as we are all professionals in our fields. The work place is very big on safety culture which is great, and we get great opportunity for hours. The pay is moderate but we work 21/7 rotations which gives us lots of overtime.

Management wants to be successful and willing to help The culture is changing for the "better" The hardest part of the job, not having the answers and having to wait it out until all approvals and variables are considered. The most enjoyable - working with an amazing team, one that supports, cares and willing to do what ever it takes.

Good place to work

If you like working, competitive wages it could be for you. Long hitches away from family and friends maybe not a forever job for everyone. Friendly environment.

Enjoyed working there great people

Was a great place to work, workplace culture was very good, the people were like family working there for 13 years never thought I would leave, admin positions were moved to the Red Deer office.

No loyalty to their employees

Clean Harbors does not have any loyalty to their employees, and most upper management are bullies. Opportunities for advancement depend on if you are family or friends. Pay is okay but do not expect to ever get a raise. Benefits are okay. Culture is toxic.

Poor work culture

This company suffers in people management. They have some terrible managers in key positions unable to be moved so employee retention is hard. It was a culture where no-one spoke to each-other unless you had to speak to each-other... not pleasant at all, within 2 weeks i knew this was not the environment for me. Management literally instructed to not screen anyone you see that has worked for Clean Harbors in the past. They don’t even want past employees back, how crazy is that of a mentality in a company?

Very Demanding Enviroment

Management expects more for less. Extra efforts go unrecognized. Benefits and retirement plans clawed back without notice. "Team" has little meaning. Team Members are only looking out for themselves and have very little loyalty to others.

Over 13,000 Employees but still retains the Family Feel

The first huge benefit to working for Clean Harbors, is that their number one value is Safety. It is integrated everywhere. Secondly, there is nothing better than being so busy you forget what time it is everyday. Rapidly growing through reputation and acquisition, one of Clean Harbor's motto's stands true: "Hire to Retire" - you truly can begin an entry level position and grow into succession here. I also highly appreciate, as a corporate employee, all of the training and certification culture that is available, from field laborers all the way up to the C-Levels. Everybody is valued at this company and it retains the "Family" feel (having been started in the early 1980's by a man with two trucks and three friends) which is evident everyday as you develop relationships throughout the organization.

Awful place to work!

Day 1 - my position was changed to a whole new department and position that was NOT mentioned in the interview! My entire team was in the states and was very difficult to.work with. Unorganized, low pay, poor management and a horrible stuffy culture. Highly suggest to look the other way!!! Upper management gets paid a fortune meanwhile everyone else is compensated poorly. Can't begun yo explain how awful this experience was.

Great large environmental leader in North America. This was a good company with good leadership and satisfying work culture and environment. Long hours, but very interesting and satisfying project work

Terrible job, miserable coworkers

Work is not based on skill level, only how long you have been with them. Be prepared to sit in camp unpaid waiting for work. Coworkers whine a lot if you do get a chance to work because in their mind you have taken the job away from them. No one wants to help train you on different trucks because you are the competition for jobs then then. Terrible work culture, nobody takes pride in their work, just do enough to not get kicked off of site.

Good place to work, steady hours all year round.

Let me start by saying that all facilities seem to run differently, all have a different culture within the Clean Harbors culture (like comparing New York and Texas, same country but very different places). I worked doing the facility technician job for three years, at the time I applied it required post secondary education in chemistry, my facility was Ryley Alberta which is a landfill/transfer station in a segregated rural village. This job is very steady, there is work for the next 20 years in this facility however sadly there seems like there will be little to no net growth in terms of personnel and for that reason with some education this is more than likely going to be a temporary job for whomever takes it. You have the choice to live in a quiet town home to 500 people or drive 70-80km to the nearest city. I chose the latter, which did cost me 120,000 km and many hours of driving over three years. The pay is reasonable for the job, however if you’re an out of town worker which is more than likely then you’ll find out how underpaid it actually is (since the labour pool for this job in particular has been exhausted in the local area). For this reason, do not be shy to ask for the highest possible pay - because raises are unlikely at this facility - highly unlikely I will repeat. This job is a hard hat, coveralls, steel toed boots kind of job, depending on your capacity it’ll be 10% office work, 15% lab work and the rest transfer station work (mostly labour), and any combination up to and including 100% transfer station work (unlikely but if you don’t know -
