The City is booming so there is lots of work. Lots of movement in this small organization and good opportunities to learn as you will be involved in a lot more than in most larger organizations. Good people to work with.
Job pays well but when you look at the whole situation it is not worth it. Residents constantly abusive to staff both verbally and sometimes physically. The rules change constantly. Health and safety is still being built and again rules are grey at best. Staff are over worked and when they ask for help they are frequently told no. Small city acting like Vancouver but doesn’t have the proper budget to support the staff needed. Council want a part in running operations and belittle the expert staff that have been hired to do the job. Coworkers try and support each other the best they can. Small city with great potential but with all of the horrible things that staff have to put up with the ones that stay give up hope and hold on hoping for retirement and the ones that leave burn out frustrated at trying to do the right things to make it better. Not worth the headache.
I have very fond memories of working for the City of White Rock. We worked in crews of 2-3 and built some strong team work skills. We were given a say in what work we thought should be done on a daily basis. The work was strenuous at times but we were often rewarded for our hard work with more favourable jobs.
