(Only applies to Tech&Ops) I have worked at CIBC for a while. One thing that stands out is an understanding for personal needs and a relaxed atmosphere. Lots of smart people who are extremely friendly. CIBC also has pretty low upwards mobility, and the sense on the ground is that it's easier to move to a management position from outside the bank than inside. That said you can expect to start with a good salary and have a lot of horizontal mobility. CIBC works hard on programs which allow existing talent to try new things and really get to know the bank. However the lack of upward mobility and possibly other factors lead to a lot of recognized top talent leaving the bank. The bank is very entrenched in its ways. Though there are many forward thinking and savvy projects going on, they are often inhibited by the more stubborn cogs of the bank, from decades old business processes to legacy systems. CIBC is currently working on ways to isolate the more cutting-edge teams from the weight of the bank at large, many of which are showing great results from my experience. This is just my impression of the bank from only a short tenure. I would reccomend it as a strong option for developers and other technology workers!
