Competitive salary with great benefits. Work can even get stressful at times but managers and work colleagues are friendly. Interview and training process is great and work gets easier with time as you gain experience.

The job in itself has the potential to be a great job, the pay is good, the insurance / benefits are good. the hours are not great as they are based off of your time as an employee, so if you are a new employee it is likely you will be selected to work late evenings and weekends etc. The only fault I had with this job is the extreme micromanagement. The managers put pressure on the team leaders to make sure theyre teams are excelling and reaching high sales targets, so in turn the team leaders are constantly breathing down your neck and monitoring everything you do through a magnifying glass, I personally found this extremely uncomfortable and stressful.

It is a high pressure sales job. The environmental is stressful and management is very biased. Agents are encouraged to spend very little time and effort helping anyone who is unlikely to apply for a credit product.

Finance is a different world where competition is the norm but the expectations that CIBC gives it employees borders on sadistic.
CIBC has the worst Culture of any work place I have ever worked at. They have no care for family life or your health at all other than what numbers your putting through. They hire and blow smoke, saying how well you're going to do after training and what they actually mean is how much money you will make for the bank by using their shady practices.

They train people to understand Mutual Funds, TDSR calculations are manipulated, insurances, home buyers plan, and the list goes on...they don't train their employees to understand they train them to sell.....ask your FSR the next time your in to explain the pros and cons of insurance or GIC's vs RSPs.....ask them what your net worth is and what they can offer you to improve it....I bet you will be surprised at how little there people know but how " well" they are doing - winning trips - that is based upon SALES! it is dangerous to sell things you don't understand and most of the FSR's that work for CIBC are there because they are salesmen not bankers!

The biggest thing Is that their upfront image is everything but behind the scenes...a very different story! There is bullying especially when it comes to anyone that is different. There are threats consistently. If you like a high school environment this is the place for you. The starting pay is good but expect to be stressed. No parking unless you want to pay 140.00 per month and shifts are terrible.

Great staff. Upper management don't stand up for the staff. They will throw you under the bus at every opportunity. Team leads are lazy and some won't even bother to get to know your name.

Call centre was standard for banking industry. High volume of calls with strong sales expectations. Metrics ruled all. Good training program at the outset.

Intensely sales focus and miss the mark on Clients and Employees wellbeing,
Executive feel entitled and are more worried about their own careers than their employees and very little succession planning

I worked in the call center environment .The first 4 weeks in the classroom are fun because you get to learn a lot about your basic financial products . You get to play games and they shower you with food parties and little employee incentives . Once you are done within the classroom and onto the floors it gets a little more intense, meaning you are now putting all that you have learned into action on the phones. It was somewhat difficult because the team Leader I had was very harsh i certain aspects . In some cases you had to questioned if it was worth doing the job. The sales targets were hard to obtain and even if you obtained them they were hard to maintain . You deal with rude clients over the phone and that’s fine but over a period of time it becomes exhausting. The pay is great and the incentives are awesome but you have to really work hard for them . And working hard for a sale could be a fine line between doing what’s right for the client and wanting that bonus . The hours weren’t great you are working 10 hour shifts and it could be overwhelming especially if you worked the late night shifts . They always had nice food parties for staff and cool employee perks . Overall I would say it’s more so a starter job but not a permanent job place that you should establish yourself and move around . I would 1 -2 years is good enough and then you move on .

The good:

The pay is great (for me at least), the benefits are amazing, the hours are comfortable (if you're willing to work weekends).

The bad:

The work load is terrible, most of the time you feel like you're baby sitting the elderly and foreigners whom have no idea on how the banking system in Canada works and so many time you spend a good chunk of time explaining the most basic of banking to grown adults, and at the end of it all, you get penalized for long talk time on the phone although you're just trying to do your job.

You get micro managed to death. You will get rewarded with meaningless papers and cards for good work, and to me it feels demeaning and insulting, it's like getting a gold star in preschool for doing great at nap time.

There's promises of gift cards, but good luck getting any, you'll be competing with everyone on the floor for 1 or 2 gift cards and at the end of the day CIBC comes out the winner.
Points positifs
Good money, benefits and titles.
Points négatifs
everything else.

It's a call center environment that places a lot of focus on how much time you spend on the phone as well as how long you take on a call. Managers need a refresher on taking calls to keep them fresh on information. Managers should be promoted according to experience not on seniority.

Points négatifs

Great place to learn about banking. The training I received was excellent. Its a very very very sales oriented job. If your manager doesn't favor you; work can be really stressful. Hardly any growth opportunities.
Points positifs
Good benifits
Points négatifs
No work life balance, salary not at par to the market

So far can't complain, like the direction the bank is taking, being more customer oriented.
Also a good work environment to start in the professional world.

In Canada we are not taught anything about finance in school, and it is also considered culturally rude to talk about money or finance openly. Therefore most people don`t know anything about banking, so naturally you will get most clients calling in who are a bit uncomfortable and perhaps a little embarrassed of their lack of knowledge regarding their current financial situation. Long story short, a lot of people will be calling in a bit defensive, but are nonetheless quite easy to diffuse. It is often quite busy and you will frequently be taking back to back calls for your whole shift. Hours are based on seniority, so when you`re new, you can count on getting some not so great hours, the shifts change every 3 months, so your shift is the same for that time period. For example, you could be 4pm - 12am (midnight) Tuesday - Saturday, or 11:30-7:30 Thursday - Monday.
Points positifs
Learn a lot about banking and finance
Points négatifs
Hours not so great if you`re new, lots of sitting

The job is very repetitive. As your fetching 50-60 calls a day, mainly discussing the same thing with clients. It can be very draining on you so it's important to manage things a certain way.
