I worked at the Churchill Health Centre for 9 years. I was given many opportunities to grow as a nurse. The hospital is situated on the Hudson Bay which is alive with nature. Visibility of polar bears and beluga whales were a daily scene most months. Even the ice and snow was beautiful to look at in the winter! All patient rooms have a view of the Hudson Bay which gives a healing view physically and mentally.
The hospital has 28 acute beds which includes emergency maternity, 7 Long Term Care, pediatrics and dental surgeries. There is a medical clinic, mental health, public health, home care day care and pharmacy which encompasses a primary health care system with in the same building.
There is a mix of local and locum employees. Everyone is wonderful to work with and have a common goal of better health for everyone. The hospital also has a retention and recruitment team to help maintain their workers and make employment in the north enjoyable.
My favorite part of my job was talking, helping and learning from the patients, family and multidisciplinary team. I have grown into a more confident nurse and over all better person from the vast amount of experience I have gained from everyone.
The hardest part of the job was leaving. It is an experience of a life time to work with such a caring team and wonderful patients in such a special place on the earth.
wide variety of experience, abundent nature, Christmas party, BBQ's held by R&R, the people, unique opportunity
short staff due to no casuals at times, micro management leadership
