Some of the management is amazing, and others are awful, and there really is no in between. You either have great days or awful days, and although the clients are great to work with, some of the workers aren't so great, and if you get stuck with them, then your whole day is spent picking up their slack. Oversight seems really minimal, which can be fine if you're with good workers, but if you're stuck with a dud, nobody will do anything about it. Nobody gets fired, nobody gets reprimanded, people have been physically threatened by staff or fallen asleep on the job, and still nothing is done.

Excellent support. A fulfilling job that is meaningful.
As a director, I found the staff very involved, supportive, encouraging to fellow staff and especially to our clients. Working with the developmentally disabled is very rewarding. The clients are warm, trusting, welcoming, and fun to be around. There are never two days alike, the challenges are always new and much can be learned if one is willing. The families of the clients are also very supportive and show concern for the staff as well as for their family member. It is easy to forget about the clock and spend extra time in the residence because everyone is so engaging.

Poorly ran, money hungry business
Does not truly care for people supported or employees. Will expect you to stay 24,36,48 hours until the next worker comes in. No follow up on accountability. Managers don’t manage at all- they leave you to the dogs and take the fancy pay check.

Competitive and back biting
As long as you kept your mouth shut and head down, your job will be safe. There was more turnover of management than staff in the home I worked in. Management did not necessarily have required experience to run the home efficiently. There was a lot of competition amongst staff to be seen by upper management in hopes of advancement that does not come.
