Good place to work

I worked at Elgin Motor Freight in London as a Driver Manager and only left because my shift couldn't work with my life anymore and I choose to take a job working from home. Management/Supervisors for the most part are great, specifically the 2 I interacted with, and they have a fountain of knowledge which they have no problem sharing. The job could be quite demanding and I left just as I was starting to get the hang of it but they are understanding so it never felt like you couldn't make a mistake. Some of your direct co-workers can be demanding and hard to work with but it's because it's important to them that the job be done right so it isn't personal, they're also willing to help you learn.

Points positifs

Good People, Good Managers

Points négatifs

I didn't love the start and finish times of my shift, a nitpick really.

Low miles low pay

Low pay , low miles , all east coast unless if you’re friends with planner , avoid at all costs , training program good but they get subsidized by the government to provide that

Points positifs

They take new drivers

Points négatifs

Low pay, low miles, east coast only

Good for experience for new drivers.

The pay is garbage, think 35k/y if you're a brand new driver, but dispatch has been pretty good about things, especially if you go out of your way to communicate.Benefits are also a joke when compared to other companies too.Vehicle maintenance is amazing though.Be accurate with what you say and do though, otherwise you can and will be blamed for things. The trucks are miled out, think 2016's.Their dispatch system is simplified to the point where you don't even have to think.

Overly organized

Safety oriented, a good company for the disciplined. Always pay on time. No pressure dispatch. Weekends home plus few nights during the week. Well maintained equipment and clean yard. Nice facility.

Good place, dispatch was fair with lots of miles.

Couple bad apples in company, but that is true with all, over all experience was fantastic, I would work with them again. So if you're looking for a challenging career look at Challenger Motor Freight, they will work with you.

To many favorite employee

Was a waste of a apprentice time and training,no advancement in trade there, used to do oil changes so they collect government subsidies,no feed back or training to advance your trade, stay clear of this company if your looking to learn anything.

Points positifs

Management clueless

Points négatifs

Lots egoes no.skills

great training losy pay.

great place to get training, but to advance, or earn more money, well lets just say there are people working there earning $21/h after 15 years. thats scarry, and disrespectfull, of the company to these people. they say they apreciate u, but to get ahead or get a raise, im not sure what u have to do. someone toled me u need to make friends, but what abot a job well done? works for work not to make friends, its something that may happen by the way. but job security and advancement shouldnt depend on it.

High responsibility, reasonable expectations, good communication

Good place to work. Excellent new driver training program *****. Would still be working there if they had a Maritimes presents /runs. New equipment, good tools. Steady work. Lots of Automotive runs with tight time lines, (do able if you know your routes). Friendly Driver Coordinators.

Points positifs

Nice washrooms/shower facilities/free laundry

Points négatifs

Long hours, Away from home as driver

Great equipment

Great company to work,if you can handle the manage/dispatch misjudgments. I worked there for 14 years, saw drivers coming and going and the reasons is aways the same “management”. They have they favourites and those favourites get the best loads/time

Points positifs

Great equipment

Points négatifs

Management

New drivers never join them, they gonna exploit you

very bad management, they will train you and then tie you in contract, never do a contract with them because then you are stuck with them for a year and they will exploit you and your time in every possible way. You will be working 14-16 hours in all parts of US and Canada earning less than minimum wage. Its really frustating every day at work. Fake promises by them when signing contract. After that you will not find even a single person in manangement who will listen to you.BIG ADVICE STAY AWAY

Points positifs

paycheck on time

Points négatifs

bad management, exploitation, nobody cares about drivers on road, very less pay

Low pay.

Good place to learn. Good people to work for.Great training program. They just don't pay well.I suppose if you lived in the truck and had no family you could do alright. You do get your own truck, and equipment is very nice.

Points positifs

Great equipment.

Points négatifs

Long hours, low pay.

They take advantage of new drivers limited experience

Long hours away from home more than promised. Not always paid properly. Days spent waiting in other parts of the country and USA to receive another load assignment. When calculated I was working for $12.00 or less most of the time.

It's a joke company

A company that brought a group of Polish drivers to work, offering us great earnings and brand new equipment. Upon arrival, the equipment was in a tragic condition, it was well over 4 years old and over 800k km traveled. For Flat bet divisions we are paid terribly. The immigration office gave us work visas so we could change the employer. The terms of the contract were largely broken by the company.

Points positifs

good dispatchers

Points négatifs

managment, work ethic, trucks, pay

A good company for new drivers

I started my professional driver career with challenger. It’s a good place to start and their loads are predictable in short order. I’ve driven for both Cambridge and Abbotsford terminals. Don’t be fooled , unless you want drive team; this is only a regional carrier. Planning and dispatch are the weak link here, you’re generally sitting and waiting for your back haul or next load. The Abbottsford yard is the hand me down location for Tractors so expect a 5 to 6 year old miled out bottom of the line Volvo 670 or freight shaker. Above Average safety, but expect your “screw up” to be displayed at terminal for everyone to see on the “ Wall of Shame”. The photos stay up until the next “Wall of Shamer”. Which can be up to a month. Relax, your truck number is blocked out but everyone knows it’s you! Driver retention is very low.... less than a year and a half and if you keep your resume up to date you will have recruiters contacting you after six months. Maintenance does their best to keep these tractors in as good condition as they can for the age the tractors. If they paid 10 to 15 cents a mile more and got new tractors, I’d still be there. Sadly, they don’t and they won’t. Get your primary experience and bolt.

Points positifs

Safe. Good maintenance department flexible availability time

Points négatifs

Regional, low miles, low pay

Terrible place to work

They lie , they give false promises and are always micro managing. If you want to be let down on a daily basis then this is the right place for you. If you want a lufe balace run away fast.
