Long hours for NO Rewards

If you’re looking to start a career in Class 1 driving. Be warned with this company! The people are generally nice and the equipment is regularly maintained, but thats is because it’s in the shop getting repaired weekly for most of their fleet, which means down time for You! The biggest issue is the money it’s Less than 0.50 cents a mile and there isn’t many trips to make those miles up. In other words you wont make any livable wage with these guys period! They also get you to sign a 12 month contract on top of the 7 weeks training, which is less than basic BC wage. If you don’t complete the 12 month contract regardless if you leave for Any Reason be it personal or medical they pass that on to debt collection agency’s and you will have to fight them through Legal means to win.

The best place to work

Excellent team to work with. Basically everything you want as an mechanic employee. The shop manager treats you with full respect and fully understanding

Great place to start but Run away after a year and dont look back

Great training program for new drivers. Have old equipment kept telling me I was going to get a new truck but that never happened. Truck was breaking down every week. Management is a Joke. Don't sign the 1 year contract !

Every thing is good but not few

Equipment is too old, routes are not good and fuel solutions need improvement not in favour of driver sleep or rest area and shower. They could give at least 5-7 fuel solutions for trips where ever drivers want to fill

Good for experience for new drivers.

The pay is garbage, think 35k/y if you're a brand new driver, but dispatch has been pretty good about things, especially if you go out of your way to communicate.Benefits are also a joke when compared to other companies too.Vehicle maintenance is amazing though.Be accurate with what you say and do though, otherwise you can and will be blamed for things. The trucks are miled out, think 2016's.Their dispatch system is simplified to the point where you don't even have to think.

Low pay.

Good place to learn. Good people to work for.Great training program. They just don't pay well.I suppose if you lived in the truck and had no family you could do alright. You do get your own truck, and equipment is very nice.

Points positifs

Great equipment.

Points négatifs

Long hours, low pay.

A good company for new drivers

I started my professional driver career with challenger. It’s a good place to start and their loads are predictable in short order. I’ve driven for both Cambridge and Abbotsford terminals. Don’t be fooled , unless you want drive team; this is only a regional carrier. Planning and dispatch are the weak link here, you’re generally sitting and waiting for your back haul or next load. The Abbottsford yard is the hand me down location for Tractors so expect a 5 to 6 year old miled out bottom of the line Volvo 670 or freight shaker. Above Average safety, but expect your “screw up” to be displayed at terminal for everyone to see on the “ Wall of Shame”. The photos stay up until the next “Wall of Shamer”. Which can be up to a month. Relax, your truck number is blocked out but everyone knows it’s you! Driver retention is very low.... less than a year and a half and if you keep your resume up to date you will have recruiters contacting you after six months. Maintenance does their best to keep these tractors in as good condition as they can for the age the tractors. If they paid 10 to 15 cents a mile more and got new tractors, I’d still be there. Sadly, they don’t and they won’t. Get your primary experience and bolt.

Points positifs

Safe. Good maintenance department flexible availability time

Points négatifs

Regional, low miles, low pay

Points positifs

Points négatifs

Long Haul Driver

I worked in the oil patch for many years never any appreciation for working hard in all extremely cold and hot weather. I come to Challenger and been here almost 11 months and have never looked back. Great office staff in both East and West. Their number one priority is our safety. This company wants you to make as much money as you can but reminding you not to put your family second.

Good overall employer

Had a good work/life balance and was able to have a flexible schedule. Overall a good place to work. Was able to reset hours at home or on the road depending on personal needs.

Good Trucking Company

If you're looking for positive work environment, new equipment, friendly and helpful dispatchers then this is the company for you. If you're looking to make money, then it isn't. Good if you want a relatively easy going job, and not worried about money too much.

Points positifs

New equipment, good pay package option for on road break downs

Points négatifs

Low pay

Good Company to work for.

Good Company to work for overall. Pay could be better but when you need time off they are flexible. Work hard for them and they will work for you. If you are looking to work more, they will keep you going and if you need time off they are accommodating if possible.

Points positifs

Home life balance

Points négatifs

Pay could be better.

Dont waste you your time!

Worked with this company for a few years. Was ok in the beginning but soon realized I was just another number. Wage was very low, no appreciation and lots of empty promises. Many other drivers had already left and continued to leave after I did. Unfortunately due to incompetent management Challenger is losing many long term, good drivers. Work/ life balance is non-existent. Top out Wage is still at the bottom for the industry. This place is in trouble! RUN don't walk!!!!!

Points positifs

Benefit Package

Points négatifs

Wage, Managment, Truck breakdown, Family/Work Balance

Inconsistant and difficult

I've found through my employment with this company that there is a high staff turnover. The head office branches have little to no communication with each other and the employees suffer and are blamed for the mistakes made from lack of communication from the offices.
