Don't get sucked into the black hole

Terrible place to work and horrible culture, this place is a career killer. I have seen dozens of examples of people who work here for 5+ years and leave and remain unemployed or accept a demotion to pay ends meat. No one wants to hire a former CBC employee... no matter the role. This place is toxic.

Points positifs

Decent pension, if you drink the kool-aid you'll be surrounded by like minded drones... some like that

Points négatifs

If you leave the cult you're damaged goods

Hostile work environment

Management uses loopholes in the collective agreement to make life miserable for temporary employees, which account for a significant portion of their workforce. Extremely unhealthy and unsafe workplace. Management is aware of how psychologically unhealthy the workplace is and has done nothing to rectify it. Working here caused me great stress and trauma.

Points positifs

None

Points négatifs

Toxic work environment

  • Environnement favorable

Not bad.

A typical working day - it can be only in the laboratory, it can be in the field, outside for live events. You will usually have the necessary equipment and tools to do the job properly. You will learn more by yourself.. If you are lucky enough to have a colleague who is more experienced than you and benevolent - then you will learn something more. Otherwise - there is no mentoring. You will not receive any training because it costs money but they are not willing to spend it with you.Management - if you are lucky enough to have a boss who climbed the hierarchical ladder on his own, then maybe you will be appreciated and supported to grow and evolve. If the boss is one who obtained the position through favors - then he will be arrogant and will confuse you in your daily activity more than it will be useful for you. They will come from time to time and talk to you.. that you have to be proactive and other such things..Otherwise, sometimes it seems to you that there are as many bosses as there are workers. There is no really workplace culture and it is not promoted. The hardest part of the job is when you have to solve a problem but you don't have a diagram of the electrical/audio/radio/video installation, or if there is one - it is very different from what you will encounter in reality. The most enjoyable part of the job - you have access to professional equipment and you have opportunities to learn, and the work environment is quite normal. It is a place where your salary will increase slowly but surely, and after about 5 years you can reach a decent salary. If you will have -

Points positifs

When you were in control of your workday, it was a productive place to be.

What is the best part of working at the company? The pay was good. Most days, I was left alone to get my work done. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Had to make sure I didn’t do anything inappropriate or uncomfortable for other workers. So, I did my best to keep my communication about work and nothing personal. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Can be quite sour and suspicious. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Answered emails, conducted interviews, planned for the show.

Great place to work.

There are great opportunities for personal growth within the company, for the most part. The team I work with is great and is a lot of fun to be around.

Good experience but too large

While my time as a radio intern at CBC provided valuable learning experiences, I have reservations about pursuing a long-term career there. The internship offered insights into the inner workings of a renowned broadcasting institution, allowing me to sharpen my skills and gain exposure to various aspects of radio production. However, the hierarchical structure and bureaucratic processes within CBC sometimes hindered creativity and innovation. The rigid protocols and adherence to traditional methods seemed to stifle the potential for fresh and unconventional ideas. Moreover, the corporate environment at CBC felt less dynamic and more restrictive, limiting opportunities for individual growth. The focus on maintaining established norms rather than fostering a culture of experimentation and adaptability made me question whether this was the ideal workplace for my future endeavors. While the internship was a stepping stone for my career, I am inclined to explore environments that encourage flexibility, innovation, and a more open-minded approach to content creation in my professional journey.

Productive and fun workplace

awesome projects in the field and great colleagues with great knowledge. My boss always incentivizes us to do some formations in the field. But not forming leaders

Pros and Cons

CBC used to be the company you graduated to with a high standard of excellence. Alas, that is not tge case today. So, if you choose to apply for a job, be yourself, respect the history of the place and be prepared to wait. It takes a long time for CBC to process applications.

Points positifs

Great place to learn from your colleagues.

Points négatifs

Poor salary. Increases are annual based on collective agreement.

Audio Department

Had a great time while working at CBC, the work can be demanding at times but at the end of the day, there's a feeling of accomplishment. Never had a problem with any co-workers

Great people, interesting work, great pension but can be demoralizing at times due to inequities.

What is the best part of working at the company?Salary is competitive. The employees work very hard and are proud of the work they do.What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Corporate slavery of management (non-unionized). No overtime pay and very long working hours due to unrealistic expectations. If you get unionized job, at least you get paid. There is a great deal of salary inequity across management - depends who you know. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?A little toxic. Management vs Union. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Working from 7am for 12 hours to get the job done.

Great coworkers with good benefits

Day to day was a little different but eventually fell into routine. You knew what days of the month were busy and when it’d be slow. Lots of understanding staff who are willing to help and teach you when you don’t know. Management is pretty good from my perspective. They listen and try their best to accommodate. Never really experienced a hard day at work here. Always enjoyed my days especially when my coworkers were around. Office to office seemed to be a bit different in office procedures and that seemed to be the “hardest” part of the job.

Points positifs

Benefits for multiple stores

Points négatifs

Constant meetings

Fast paced, interesting work with great colleagues

CBC is a great place to work. There are many amazing, very smart people who work there and it can be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the unpredictable scheduling, opportunities for advancement and management practices sour the experience over time.

Points positifs

Engaging work, no two days are the same, great colleagues

Points négatifs

Poor management (favouritism, back-stabbing), lack of career development

Disorganized and hectic

Unpredictable workload every day, unrealistic assignments, useless corporate meetings, no support: toxic environment.Forced to join the union and pay for it: when you need it, it is useless.I would not recommend this workplace to anyone.

CBC employees have a strong sense of purpose and passion for their work.

I spent over 30 years at the corporation. I was fortunate to have several supportive supervisors and mentors. I was treated fairly and with respect by all of my managers and most of my colleagues.

Points positifs

Sense of purpose

Points négatifs

It’s a hard job to “turn off” when you aren’t working.

Inspiring workplace

It was my goal to work for the CBC and I haven't been disappointed since starting here. Working with the best journalists in the market is inspiring and motivates me to want to produce strong work.

Demanding workload; work that can be personally rewarding but lack in professional recognition

You can get pigeonholed easily and that's frustrating when you've worked hard for recognition, demonstrating interest and skills/potential in other areas. Culture can feel steeped in favoritism. There is a union that can help but its reps are pretty overwhelmed.

Points positifs

Very fun work at times

Points négatifs

Work that will leave you exhausted
