Poor support for sales efforts

Canon is a great company however, the photocopier sales division is severely out of touch with the market. They push hard on over priced machines sold from Canon but allow their own dealers to undercut them. They then turn to the sales person and say, "Why can't you sell this?".
Their outdated sales portal looks like something out of 1998; and is not effective at achieving sales goals.
Associates are drastically under paid, asked to drive long distances, and are often left paying out of pocket just to accomplish the goals.
The management seems to be afraid of their senior leadership that is humorously flawed in their approach, and refuses to say anything about it. In 2018, they have 0 online support in marketing their products.

I was responsible for the day to day management of Key Accounts. Roughly 300 accounts. The corporate head office had a subsidized cafeteria which was fantastic. The culture of my colleagues was really great. Mentoring, sharing ideas. Management was not the greatest. Very negative from a sales motivational perspective.

Everything is pretty decent except the pay.

I enjoyed working with my managers and coworkers, however the base salary is not a liveable amount of money for Calgary and the inconsistency of sales from month to month can is tough. The best part of this job is that employers all acknowledge that this as a job the produces top notch sales professionals.

Canon has a top product mix, however a sales background at executive level would help company be more competitive in Enterprise space

Canon Canada Inc's strengths are it's people, the everyday support group and front line sales force. A typical day would include working with representatives from several different lines of business. This collaborative approach, although not always supported by upper management, was the best way to ensure customer satisfaction.

The hardest part of achieving success was dealing with several levels of red tape and an administrative group that was located out of province. These difficulties combined with Executive level deficiency's made it a challenge to grow customer base.

The most enjoyable part of the job was also the hardest, that was retaining business and growing customer relationships from a corporate aspect. The most enjoyable aspect was the ability to foster customer relationships both internal and external that still hold true post employment.

Worked as an account manager for about a year, the commission and pay structure is competitive but the work culture is bad, the industry is in trouble, with every sales rep trying to undercut each other.

Horrible GM with absolutely no management skills.

The Sales Manager that had hired me was laid-off/fired just before I started.
The GM and I did not get along, he is a power freak and wants to have FULL control of you. Plus, he has absolutely no management skills and thinks he is a GOD of the printing industry.
One of the biggest mistakes I have made in my life-time working under him.
The company culture is otherwise good and very young crowd of staff in the commercial sales. For most of them this was their first job.
