This company is not straight up about what they want from you as an employee. The contract depicts a jack of all trades and then expects you to do something completely different in the role. Basically they want to cover their backs in an employment dispute should you challenge them on their expectations. When the flaws in the systems are highlighted or clearly do not make sense or follow standard protocol in business you are restricted in your work input told not to talk to your colleagues about resolving the problem and finally they fire you for with a poor excuse. They are two faced when it comes to company culture and there is a high turnover of staff. There are some really helpful employees there but there is a definite undercurrent of disassociation between management and employees.
Started here a few year ago and its your average construction company and its my third construction company to work for. They work in underground gas and its all outside so prepared for the winter and at times lots of hours and O/T.
Casual place to work however quite busy most times. Friendly staff and supportive managers within the group which is nice. I am moving out of BC so have left the company but would work again there if the opportunity arose.
paid weekly, benefits and vacation allowances
lots of changes in upper staff however it now seems to have stabilized
A typical day at CUC is fast-paced and no day is ever the same! The office has a fun and friendly team environment; there's always something to do or to help someone with. The hardest part of the job is being able to stay organized with many projects at the same time, however, the most enjoyable part of the job is the people, especially the longer-tenured ones. They have so much knowledge to pass on, just got to be willing to learn!
Pre-Covid BBQ's, Company Events, Flexible Hours

Since I have started here, I have felt supported and from what I’ve heard, the culture has improved significantly over the past few years. I have already noticed the positive workplace culture and I’m looking forward to a long term career with this company.
Open/transparent management and strong team environment
CUC was a good place to start after I graduated, bit of a learning curve at the beginning, great pay and benefits + relaxed management.Starting during COVID was odd because less people in the office, but working from home was fun!
my cubicle was cold but I got a heater
I learned a lot while I was there from the senior field staff who are very knowledgeable on the underground gas business. It was year round work which was nice not be laid off in winter. Long days at times with lots of O/T.
Year round work
Poor management and understanding of the business they’re operating. Senior Management in the Surrey, BC location believe they’re untouchable yet couldn’t tell you the first thing about how to manage a project. All that would be excusable, but the way they treat their employees is deplorable and $500k/year wouldn’t make me work another day in this poor excuse for an organization.
Field staff and Foremen were skilled and easy to work with
Intimidating office culture with expectations to work around the clock and weekends.

Typical construction work in the underground gas, all outside work and it is all year. you can learn lots if you want. long hours at times but get paid every week and it comes with benefits...
Outdoor physical work with a good group of staff. Busy but not stressful and treated well. Average salaries and benefits and a great opportunity to start a construction career as they will advance from within.
Full time hours, treated fairly
I loved working at CUC, the environment, people and work culture were amazing! I was in the main office so I wad fortunate to have my own work space. I a very short time I was pretty use to everyone in the company and what positions they held. I spoke to many people who loved their jobs with CUC and were a delight to speak with on a day to day basis. Everything worked pretty smooth because the hierarchy of employees. This has got to be one of the most efficient teams I have been apart of and they keep improving.
Working for this company was by far the worst working experience of my life. Everyone there is so cliquey. The problem runs all the way up to management, so you should not expect that any conflicts you have with coworkers, your fault or not, will be dealt with reasonably. This is most likely why their turnover rate is so high. This is the first job in the last 17 years that I haven't been able to take something positive away from. You can do way better than what this place has to offer.
I worked there for 6 months. Was hired over the phone from Ontario so I moved my wife and kids to Victoria from Ontario. In my 25 years of construction I have never worked for such a awful place. 1 break a day at 10am no lunches ever 6 days a week. The guys are very clicky treated me like garbage everyday because I was from out of province
Always got paid
Work extremely hard
Been here 3 years and still happy. The company does underground utilities construction so it's seasonal - digging when the ground isn't frozen, there are crazy busy times and slow times and trying to juggle that can be a little crazy. There's some cool people that have been around for a long time that can show you the ropes if you can pick it up quick but they ain't gonna hand hold you. Some proper salt of the earth people that work here. Corona virus has been rough but gettin' through it and one of the businesses that hasn't had to shut down!
They're always pushing you to go... go... go... With little guidance leading to frustration and confusion on your job tasks. Ultimately leading you to looking unprofessional and getting fired or laid off. There a company that uses you until you can't take it anymore. There motto is "Everybody is replaceable!"
