The title says it all, these guys (to be fair, ALL railways) have NO work/life balance. If you take this job you will make a whole butt-load of cash and will get a great pension, but it comes at a HUGE sacrifice if you value any sort of social life. You live and breath this work, the company is your new family, and you WILL NOT HAVE ANY BREAKS, WEEKENDS, OR HOLIDAYS (Save for 2 weeks AV) for AT LEAST 10-15 years as you build up your seniority. Seniority is the king at these unionized position. All this coupled with the inherent stress of being the middleman between field crews and operation center management, the position’s incredibly steep learning curve, and the utter disregard for employee workloads and sleep deprivation makes this a job that only a few people can pull off for more than a few months to a year.
