If you don't have a life outside of job, this place may be for you. A terrible management driving workers like slaves. Workplace so full of politics, that Parliament Hill has nothing on CP. I wouldn't advise to look for a position there now. Possibly when the CEO and CIO change you could reconsider.
Points positifs
Good pay
Points négatifs
No work/life balance. Working extremely long hours under tremendous pressure.
Management based on carrot and stick mentality. Mostly the stick.
Non-union employees are required to participate in the management conductor/engineer program which means they have to be on call to go anywhere at any time to run trains regardless of whether that is their desired career.
I have been involved with CP Rail for over 8 years now. My first 6 years of work with CP had been wonderful with good appreciation for hard work and wonderful team of co-workers.
However, the last tenure of over 6 months has been absolutely painful with pathetic management attitude, absolutely no respect for good workers, over burdening employees, extremely crunched timelines, zero planning and also threatening employees about layoff in case of any missed deadlines with zero rationale.
The only positive being a competitive salary which is more than compensated by the amount of pressure and stress inflicted on employees.
