You need to be flexible for work hours at all times for the first few years at least. The work schedule can change up to 24hrs before shift. working day/evening/nights with short changes (8hrs between shifts) or long changes. Entitled to 48hrs off per two weeks which is not always at same time. They preach safety but encourage speed so as to make timings/profit. need to be at your 110% at all times since it is a safety critical position but barely give you adequate rest. can tell you you are staying for overtime at end of shift a few times a week with you not able to say no. trouble/responsibility always rolls down to the RTC from above and from crews in the field.

I started as labourer,after two my training started.I learned using cutting torch,welding,repair freight cars,air brake system, then I learned How to paint the freight cars. People are very friendly. When ever the power failed.Every day was enjoyable.

I was a long service employee here. Management can be hit or miss as it is anywhere large. Very old school management is back in. If you are used to it it is easier to handle. You need to focus on the positive parts and keep the negative aspects in the background.

The most of the IT managers are very weak and they are not able to delivery on time. Some of then do not have idea about the functionalities that they are working on. They used to push the issues for the team and they are not able to support the team.

ok place to work. good visibility with senior staff but a lot of after hours work is necessary if you want to get ahead. work life balance is definitely a struggle

This was a unionized environment where it seemed that seniority was a priority rather than ability. It was a tough, bullying culture that seemed to ignore any skills you bring as a new employee, and if you've ever wondered how best to survive: fight back. If you allowed yourself to be bullied, you sank. Quickly. But that's a unionized blue collar environment for you.

The title says it all, these guys (to be fair, ALL railways) have NO work/life balance. If you take this job you will make a whole butt-load of cash and will get a great pension, but it comes at a HUGE sacrifice if you value any sort of social life. You live and breath this work, the company is your new family, and you WILL NOT HAVE ANY BREAKS, WEEKENDS, OR HOLIDAYS (Save for 2 weeks AV) for AT LEAST 10-15 years as you build up your seniority. Seniority is the king at these unionized position.
All this coupled with the inherent stress of being the middleman between field crews and operation center management, the position’s incredibly steep learning curve, and the utter disregard for employee workloads and sleep deprivation makes this a job that only a few people can pull off for more than a few months to a year.

i dont really know what to say here, i worked there and it was an okay lace to work until i was layed off. i guess job security would have been nice to have

It was The most terrible company I have ever worked. It has nothing except being stressed and unsafe, unstable and being insulted by management. It was a complete nightmare

It is a good place to work. Pay is decent but way less then for what is expected of you. The hours are good and the coworkers and management are great to work with.

Lots of turnover. Negative culture, they are working on rolling out a leadership program company wide. Every employee required to train as an engineer.

Dont work here if you value having a family or friends . Very little time off and management will try to fire you to gain their bonuses at end of year . Nice scenery on the laggan subdivision ost then that.. not worth the lifestlye .

I thought CP would be a great company. I received NO training and worked with someone management is aware is a bully but they do nothing to address. I don’t recommend this company

Positives include benefits, bonus and shares. Office space, scenic surroundings.
Negatives include bad project management planning, lack of developer tools, beaurocracy in all processes. Favouratism among teams.

very unprofesional people and managment is terrible they treat their employees with no respect, expect you to work around the clock with no food and very little sleep.
very very terrible place to work. the employees are all miserable and hate their jobs
