Conductor (Ancien employé) –  Calgary, AB13 octobre 2019
Dont work here if you value having a family or friends . Very little time off and management will try to fire you to gain their bonuses at end of year . Nice scenery on the laggan subdivision ost then that.. not worth the lifestlye .

Get in the right department
Railcar Mechanic and Freight Inspector (Ancien employé) –  Edmonton, AB29 septembre 2019
Immediate supervisors are great but then when you get to mid to upper management they are complete a..holes, real puppets to the vp's. Havent a clue as to what the real workers do. No railroad experience in upper management. All paper educated.

Toxic old people that fear moving forward.
Project Manager (Ancien employé) –  Calgary, AB17 septembre 2019
Toxic environment full or nepotism and ego. Managers full of ego even if not as knowledgeable. Environment looks like Mumbai market. Indians are too toxic and will do anything to kick out anyone not Indian.
Points positifs
Good pay
Points négatifs
High level of insecurity. Toxicity and nepotism.

Sr. Management
IT Employee (Ancien employé) –  Canada17 septembre 2019
Sr. Management in the IT organization needs to go. They create a culture of fear and drive people to the brink often imposing on vacation and personal events like family birthdays and anniversaries using phrase such as CP is your family and family comes first.

You sleep with one eye open as you are absolutely afraid to miss a call even when you are not on call for fear of job loss. Never travel outside of cell range and don't forget your PC.

Middle management are typically a class act who are brought in from outside the rail industry - they attempt to shelter their people but are frequently reassigned in order to inflict Sr. management command and control and unfortunately quit or are released. The only ones that last are yes men..

They preach a culture of respect which means they still yell and belittle you but no longer use profanity or gender terms to do it.
Points positifs
Good Bonus's - only reason for staying.
Points négatifs
Very Long Hours - No (NONE) work life balance. CP doesn't even provide coffee in their offices, you need to bring your own pods, creamers, and cups.

Cautious approach needed
Engineer (Ancien employé) –  Central Canada11 septembre 2019
there was a hostile company takeover with shareholder approval. This culminated removal of 1/3 of the work force, increased workloads, and targeted constructive dismissal with a view to increased shareholder profits. Work became unbearable in a demanding, abusive and toxic environment. Not sure what the present looks like

aside from the pay and benefits, what used to be a great job is now toxic because of bad management
diesel mechanic (Ancien employé) –  Winnipeg, MB1 août 2019
It was a great place to work until 2015. All the experienced people were dismissed or retired and replaced by non-railway supervisors who don't know what they are doing. The culture is toxic and the company does not care for the wellbeing of their employees. There is no work-life balance and if a supervisor does not like you, they will make your life a living heck.
Points positifs
salary and benefits
Points négatifs
incompetent junior management and dictatorial upper management

Daggers in your back
Conductor (Employé actuel) –  British Columbia27 juillet 2019
There are some good, kind, people that work here. But, so many people are toxic back stabbers, and have nothing better to do but to complain on their shift, and say nasty things about other people. The money is really good, but you cannot commit to absolutely anything in your life, because you're always on call. You will often work 10 to 12 hour shifts, and some trips are over night trips in another location, where you will be stuck for over 24 hours. Oh, and if you don't really like working with people, this is not the job for you. It is a huge group of people, and you will work with a different person

Not for everyone
Locomotive Engineer (Certified) (Ancien employé) –  Cranbrook, BC27 juillet 2019
Great money and pension. If you get sick a lot not the job for you ,company and management do not tolerate absenteeism. No family life 24/7 365 days a year. Of you feel entitled, find another job , you are just a number, not a name, do your work an go home . Never know what day or time they will call you for work .
Points positifs
Big money
Points négatifs
No family life

No life balance
Conductor (Ancien employé) –  Lethbridge, AB10 juillet 2019
Don't expect to have a work/life balance with this company. CP functions as they call you jump as far as they tell you. How it works is they call, you have two hours to get to the station to print your paperwork and be on the engine.
They barely pay you anything while training (2000/Month) and your often out of town for a couple days at a time. Don't be shocked if you're also working 16 hours in a day.
If you survive the grueling training you can make around 60-70K a year once you're qualified.
Points positifs
Paid lodging when out of town, except food
Points négatifs
no balance

It's a lifestyle aka sacrifice!
Conductor (Ancien employé) –  Toronto, ON2 juin 2019
If you can live with staying away from home for extended periods, sacrificing your social and personal life, being burnt out and working with little to no appreciation from the management and living under fear of getting fired after a mistake which inevitably will happen due to the fear culture and being overworked under stress then this is the job for you. Ps. the only silver lining would be the pay and benefits but is that worth it for the sacrifice you're gonna make for the family as you only got one life! Choose wisely!
Points positifs
Pay and benefits
Points négatifs
Bully management, toxic culture and stressful life
