Worked for the company for more than a year for the GCCS departement, short for Group Customer Contact Services. Wasn't informed as to what is expected to have an increase. Daily duties were always changing, and requirements were always higher and higher. The Supervisors are just individuals who worked long for the company, they need human resource training in my opinion.

Don't waste your time! Doesn't worth! As a claim processor you will be least rewarded compared to other positions! Only take this position if you want to break your back!

In the 12 years working for this company there was real help to move people off the bottom floor into advanced or better positions. The pay for those at the bottom is $5-6 per hour less than the competition. They also ended up micromanaging everything we did because all they could look for was to cut jobs down the bottom instead of looking at CEO pay or the number of managers to run one department. Look elsewhere like Blue Cross or Wawanesa Insurance if you want a starting position in this industry!

Their workplace culture is not really hectic, I learnt about teamwork and the hardest part of the job was being able to meet the target for production

My manager talked to me once a year. Enough said.

Frankly, I do not appreciate being asked all these questions. Working her has not been a pleasant experience.

Hard to advance your career, management is not very interested in mental health or complaints about bullying. compensation is only negotiable when you are hired.

Canada Life is currently undergoing a complete change in workplace organization. It is stressful going to work in the morning not knowing if we are going to be able to find a desk to work at for the day. We are unable to personalize our work space. Pay is way too low for the amount of work required of us.

Awful experience working here. Took a pay cut to leave this company. Was not a good environment and since leaving many many more employees have also left.

This company advertises that they value their customers and employees. Their motto is “ customers are the centre of what we do” This is incorrect, in the call centre and benefit payment office is all about stats. Quality does not matter it is about quantity. Constant overtime due to new systems that are not properly implemented which cause system shutdowns and errors. The management team is a joke, these managers are the equivalent of a high school popularity contest. Constant bullying of employees for stats and health issues. More employees are on stress leave/ short term disability than actually working. If you work in the call centre be advised that you cannot take any extra bathroom breaks, if you need to for any reason a drs note is required and you will have to pay back the time you used to use the washroom back to the company. However if you are stuck on a call after your shift, this is your own time and you will not be paid for it. If you can avoid it, do not get suckered into working at this place, the money is enticing however your mental health will take a serious decline.

Shortsighted leaders can't see past the next month. If you take any kind of issue to them they'll pretend to care and promptly forget about it five minutes after your meeting. They also believe in monthly 1/1 meetings where your leader tells you everything you did wrong in the last month. You should look elsewhere.

I worked for GWL for 41 years, then retired in 2018 and worked under contract to them for a year on a part time basis until September 2019.They were a very supportive employer over these many years, providing me with training, resources and opportunities for growth. I would continue to work for them if there were any current opportunities.

While GWL is a great company to work for - it is extremely difficult to get ahead. If you don't have your actuary designation it will be near impossible to get a management position. The Head Office is great, with a gym on site & a cafeteria for everyone, the benefits they offer their employees are below average for the industry.

Don't get me wrong, it is very hard at first or for the first few months but once you get the hang of it, it is very easy and lay back. Getting promoted is quick as long as you are showing dedication and performing great. Team leaders are great too, very friendly and provides positive atmosphere.

What else can I say but they have a Tim Horton's inside Great West Life Head Office. That in itself is so dope. And you can use your id to pay deduct which is awesome.

A typical day was processing claims. Learned alot about all the different kinds on claims. The managment was helpfully and there for you. Work place was alot of people doing the same work. Hardest part of the job was knowing what claims went where and how to process them correctly. Working by yourself but help was there when you needed it.
