I cannot think of a better company to work for, is a great space for advancement. I learned so much the two years that I worked for the company, I actually regret leaving the company.

Great West Life is an amazing company with a wonderful culture. I fit right in as I stared. GWL provided with the resources and tools to complete desk responsibilities.

Caseloads were well over what 1 person can handle, and there is no flexibility in the workday.

A very nepotistic company, and be careful of the pigeon holes.

I developed extensive skills working with customers even when they were distressed. I'm excellent at deescalating situations and finding a way to make the customer happy. Our customer satisfaction rating rose 10 percent during my tenure at my previous employer

I really enjoyed my work and the people I worked with at Great-West Life. The company culture is respectful and the work opportunities are plentiful and rewarding. The biggest challenge I encountered is change. Some long tenured folks are pretty set in their ways. Sometimes things take longer to move forward at Great-West, both in terms of decision making and employee engagement.

Contract positions only. High stress. You take your work home with you. You are not considered valuable unless you are a slave to them. There are a lot of pets. Very political.

Work involved answering customer's financial questions over the phone. Mutual fund knowledge is necessary to provide good responses to queries. Reports were sent to customers if they asked for them.

Overall, people are very nice in the company and they really carry the traditional canadian culture throughout the company. However, technologies and efficiency are lacking here. Training was not enough, basically everything was on the job training and you will be audited during that time too....

If you want to enhance/practice your documenting skills, this is the great place to start because GWL's inbox size is only 5 MBk, that means if you receive more than 10 mails every day, you had to file and clean it up every morning once you come back office. Otherwise, you are out of contact.

On the other side, you need to document teammates/co-workers' bad behaviors (date/time/event/descriptions/processes/outcome...) because they are good at spread rumors/intimidate... and Director of Finance would ask you to give her a daily work spreadsheet to record every single minute what you're doing/for what task/expected time to finish/..... the worst department is FINANCE.


Furthermore, the average age of employees in GWL Toronto, I guess is ~ 58. Systems were built 20-30 years ago, no productivity, don't like innovations, spend hours in chatting and ...... a lot more you could imagine.

Co-workers are great


Cons:

unreasonable productivity expectations, high case loads, non-sensible metrics, too much oversight of work, old equipment, out of touch management.

The job is stressful for various reasons, not just dealing with difficult and unwell customers where one needs to be a medical doctor and counsellor rolled into one, but also needs to keep up with crazy high volume of work but do everything perfectly because your worked is checked and scored! The numbers matter more than the customers, but the numbers make no sense anyway. They need someone who really understands how to develop metrics. All the grunt work is dumped on the Case Manager too.

I would never recommend this job to anyone.

contact and review clients portfolios . learned to respect others ideas . managment in general was affable and good minded. workplace was freindly but bussinesslike. learning new products and constant changes in government guidelines. the most enjoyable part of this job was working with my clients.
