Working for CGI in the beginning can be a very positive professional challenge for any individual, however as time goes by you really start to learn the in’s and out’s of how things work, around there, and then you start to notice how much favouritism there is within the senior leadership team. Your job is never secure if you’re not high up on the totem pole and even then you’re at risk. You will always feel that uncertainty as to when/if you will be replaced. Some of the senior management at CGI can be fair when it comes to workload and expectations, but they are few and far between. With favouritism, politics, and the lack of leadership there I’d say look elsewhere. In way of salary; it’s low for what you’re expected to do. Work life balance is average, but I also know that people have accumulated so much vacation time because they’re never given an opportunity to take time off because the job just won’t permit it = work overload.
Professional growth, salary, work life balance, work atmosphere
- Overall organizational structure is very traditional and bureaucratic. - Management is more focused on earning Sales- Revenue than employee retention or well being. - There are frequent lay-offs every year. - Every year, they go for re-structure and it is stressful. - Mid Level management is not transparent in many cases. - Supervisors are not Team oriented, so it's really difficult to Trust management's approaches. - A good place to earn experience, but, Definitely Not a place for a long-term career, as there be the business modality is complex.
This is the place careers go to die. You are constantly lied to and deceived. No training is provided, and you are left to fend for yourself. I did not feel valued nor appreciated in my stay here. Management is also unethical & incompetent. Would not recommend to a friend. Pros: None Cons: All

The resource managers dont care about finding the right fit for their resources, just any billable assignment. It leads in many case to loosing your qualifications and not practicing your skills. Which in terms makes it increasingly difficult to find a new project inside.
CGI isn't a company that fosters your growth, they sap you of any knowledge and skillset that you have until you break. There isn't any effort to protect the employees and as they utilize a "bench" service, they feel that any tech can be replaced. Customer Service takes a backseat to the bottom line. Terrible place for your mental well being and I would strongly advise avoiding.
I have the opportunity to work with many great team members on a daily basis. The structured work flow and appetite for further learning is prevalent in the workplace.
Working as a consultant, the needs of the client are critical and that drives work hours, climate etc but CGI tried to create climate to support their consultants during placements on client sites. They had group and departmental meetings off site and encouraged their employees to attend to continue to network with other CGI associates.
In their fanatical pace to acquire companies, and IT contracts; they gloss over individuals and their skills, they purchased in those acquisitions. Many of those acquired jobs, go to their cheaper resources and force those individuals acquired here in Canada,to either sit on bench or do other things than what they did before CGI's acquisition of them. Unless you have proactive, good managers and good management practices, you will be left to fend for yourself, with threat of the door shown to those who to not assimilate, or change according to client needs, versus, following what they have spent their lives and careers developing, before being acquired by CGI.
CGI is a perfect company for Canadian Techies with lots of exposure to Cloud and DevOps technologies and process Company has some of the best technical leaders who can drive and mentor professionals to reach heights
