Jai adoré travailler au Best Western premier. Les gens sont très généreux et formelle.
Front desk was very interesting. Always different challenges and meeting new people from around the world was a very great experience. We had different types of conventions or weddings and banquets in which I would be involved in organizing. Making sure all tickets were accounted for and that the overall flow of the event went smoothly. I would have to tend to complaints of the floors. For example if there were people being too rowdy I would have to politely tell them to quiet down. Make sure that there wasn't anyone in the pool area unattended to if they were under age. Replenish the sundries. Would be the one to go out and purchase sundries if the inventory was low. Emptied and balanced the parking meter. Made sure cash balanced at beginning and end of shift. All in all this was a very nice clean and safe place to work.
First off, I refuse to go against my beliefs and how I was raised. I am not a dishonest man. This property is not a BWPlus property, but still had the sign up, confusing my guests upon arrival, as many guest know their BW loyalty benefits. Most properties will notify of Hot Tub or Pool unavailability during the days it is closed, but this property never made any effort, and we were instructed to notify only if asked. The hot tubs were due to close for months, upsetting many guests upon check in. The property also underwent a few GM's before my arrival, and the trend was the same during my time. At the end, many staff benefits were being taken away, while raising employee expenses such as staff meals and staff accom rent. They were making rules up as they went along at this property, some in conflict with employment standards. I was also incorrectly paid, where they were trying to pay me as low of a wage when I departed, which I know how to protect myself professionally. I eventually got paid the proper amount. This property ended my dismissed me from my job and had the audacity to mark it as "quit". I put in my week notice and they were trying to convince me what the labor laws were, where I had to notify them of what the labor laws and employment standards rules were regarding job termination, regardless if it was initiated by the employer or employee. Otherwise, I learned a lot and would loved to have stayed if I did not lose my mother and had to travel back home, which my manager seemed to take personally and immediately became hostile, as they did not take employees - plus...

Favouritism at it's best! You get constantly bumped if you are not the bosses pet. Promises when they are in need of you yet never come and once they don't need you anymore , they give you no hours. Manipulation, constant back stabing. No bonuses,no Christmas party's. You want to be miserable work here.
It's an awful place to work, and the manager is nasty and back stabbing...She has no idea how to manage a hotel..The staff are always upset, and angry because of her...I would not reccomend working here..The Hotel has a huge turn around as it's always a revolving door..This hotel is awful...
Work was fast paced in a hotel that was always at full occupancy. My position involved attending to guests' needs, helping with bags, greeting guests at the front door, and room service. Along with that, learning the process of guests when checking in and checking out. I Learned Front Desk check in for guests and the procedure for it. My position as Bellman gave me a window into every department and strengthened my understanding of how a Hotel operates.
Safety is a joke here as upper management is not certified to work in compliance of provincial rules and regulations. When items are worked on they should be brought up to today's standards. These items are supposed to be inspected by city inspectors and signed off on.
Management was pretty good, co workers were hard to work with sometimes but that’s okay since we don’t really have to work with them most of the time. Housekeeping management seemed to put themselves into front desk business which was unprofessional to say the least. Overall was ok.
Management has a lack of communication amongst themselves and staff. Scheduling is always random (sometimes 1 shift a week, sometimes 6) except for the favorites who are given full time hours. Not to mention management is run by all white conservative men who believe the younger generation is to blame for all work issues due to their "entitlement". There is absolutely no fun allowed while working, you're expected to be a fake smiling robot while you're there. I would recommend this job to someone who is content with their life and does not want to move further.
I was new to the whole restaurant environment, the managers and owners knew that when they hired me. There was no professional training whatsoever, I was basically learning as I would mess up or learn from seeing others. There was times where I have to pay out of my own pocket because I made a mistake, I was still learning!!! The owners made it very difficult to work and do our jobs and they were hard to talk too, it seemed like nothing I or anybody said, got to them. After every shift I felt so overwhelmed and overworked, I knew on my first that I won’t be working there for long. I loved the customers and my position but best western workplace just isn’t the best
