I’ve worked for many brands and best western itself is a good brand but as a franchise it opens the door for a lot of owners/management groups that can be cruel or unfair. You just gotta find a BW with a good managing group and pay.
Promised raises many times and never got it. Managers watched the cameras 24/7 if you sat for a few moments for a break or talked to someone youd get in trouble. Day shift put against night shift. Boss had no back bone either and didnt discipline people who are late everyday and goes out for smoke breaks every hour on the hour.
None other than leaving
I love working there. There is always room for advancement if you put the effort in. Pay is good plus benefits and monthly bonuses, and a RRSP match program. I have been there going on 3 years now. Most of our staff has been there 10 plus years, including janitorial 30 years. People stay because it is a great place to work!!

After many years being subjected to management that did not value nor respect my work ethic, time management or any of my important skills (transferable or otherwise), my employment with Best Western ended that. Even though the pay is low, I am treated as part of the team, valued for my skills and work ethic and respected everyday by an incredible supervisor.
Awesome managment, flexible and fair scheduling, good hours
Pay is typical minimum wage which is a con for most people doing essential jobs
I liked working here but I guess I could not keep up and like I said there where maybe 3 manager that where nice one was not nice and one was awesome

Even though the crews work weekends and of 8-9 days without time off. The company never pays overtime. One can never make any real extra money here. The employer is respectful and courteous. The hotel remains very clean at all times. Guests leave hotel pleased it seems. It is a minimum wage paying job. Non union. No benefits
Good place. Friendly staff, free breakfast, wonderful environment. Very busy during the summer and you get a lot of hours to work. Good benefits too, employer care about their staff welfare.
This job is very physically demanding, my manager was great, my head manager was not. A few of the girls I worked with would have slit your throat if they had thr chance just to better themselves. The head manager hired me at 13 dollars an hr, told me after 2 months I would move up to 14 dollars ... Ha! I got a 0.30 raise, after he promised and gave me his word. And I'm just going to say after witnessing how some of the girls clean.... staying at a hotel is my very last option..... YUCK!!!!!
it was a good place to work, we had lots of fun, the coworkers are very friendly, and helpful. the manager was nice to employees. but the salary is low.
They believed in micro management after new owners took over. While I was working there they put my position of front desk clerk on indeed for more hours and more pay. They expect you to take Western university courses and don’t give a raise for competition. Very stressful job and will never do front desk at any hotel again!
First off, I refuse to go against my beliefs and how I was raised. I am not a dishonest man. This property is not a BWPlus property, but still had the sign up, confusing my guests upon arrival, as many guest know their BW loyalty benefits. Most properties will notify of Hot Tub or Pool unavailability during the days it is closed, but this property never made any effort, and we were instructed to notify only if asked. The hot tubs were due to close for months, upsetting many guests upon check in. The property also underwent a few GM's before my arrival, and the trend was the same during my time. At the end, many staff benefits were being taken away, while raising employee expenses such as staff meals and staff accom rent. They were making rules up as they went along at this property, some in conflict with employment standards. I was also incorrectly paid, where they were trying to pay me as low of a wage when I departed, which I know how to protect myself professionally. I eventually got paid the proper amount. This property ended my dismissed me from my job and had the audacity to mark it as "quit". I put in my week notice and they were trying to convince me what the labor laws were, where I had to notify them of what the labor laws and employment standards rules were regarding job termination, regardless if it was initiated by the employer or employee. Otherwise, I learned a lot and would loved to have stayed if I did not lose my mother and had to travel back home, which my manager seemed to take personally and immediately became hostile, as they did not take employees - plus...
