If you're a robot that will dedicate your life to the hotel, or a student working part time, you'll be fine. Otherwise, go elsewhere, the workplace ethic of the full time staff there is barely human, and the (absentee) owner's business ethic will make you question life itself. Be careful what you say to whom, it WILL be used against you. But if you're fine minding your own business and doing the daily tasks for about an hour, and spending the remaining 7 hours doing barely anything you'll be fine.Great support staff, housemen (a.k.a. janitors), maintenance people, and the housekeeping are fantastic people that you'll WANT to be friends with. Barely got to get to know the rest of the front desk staff as I basically worked alone my entire (relatively short) time there.Management disapproves of independent minded people that would rather know why certain things are done the way they are, instead of doing them blindly. Also, the Accountant/Front Desk Manager barely works during the daytime, so good luck getting feedback from the only person that can tell you if you make mistakes. Hardest part is the dead time, you'll literally sit there for hours doing nothing at times, you'll yearn for the times where 15 people show up at the same time.Best part however is when people feel valued by you due to the nature of your good service, seeing your name appear in reviews will make your day. And like mentioned above, DON'T OPEN UP TO PEOPLE WITH YOUR SAME JOB TITLE, some people actually arrive early with the specific intention to talk with management about what goes on behind their - plus...

like to work everywhere i worked. It was a whole new experience in working two separate industry. Hospitality and fast food. Both of the industry gave me one important thing which will stay with me i.e. customer service. Handling customer complaints, solving problem, managing team and main part is running the show. But i liked a lot working there.

Being a locally owned and operated business, the owners really cared about their employees and customers. Many great relationships were formed.

The typical day at work, would be me coming in early and punching in the clock. Then signing up into the database and reading emails from management and other staff. When guests would arrive, I would check them in and provide them a room with a room key. The management was nice, however very micro-managing kind of company. Co-workers were nice, some were mean and some were fun to get along with. The hardest part of this job is working in the second shift from 3 to 12. The most enjoyable part of this job is being paid and living independently.

A typical day at work is coming in early in the morning, making sure the till and brilliant system and moneris are balanced, typically i do the call around for other hotels rates and how many rooms they have left. second i start checking guests out and making sure they are happy with there stay. I also have to communicate with housekeeping to make sure they know all the rooms that have checked out or extended there stay. I probably almost learn something new everyday there is a lot of knowledge and responsibility at the hotel and working alone you need to be aware what you`re doing. The management is recently new there she just started 2 weeks ago but is also a manager at another hotel. My old manager was very helpful to me and always helped me if i ever had any questions or concerns with the hotel. My co-workers are great all really nice caring people, I became close with most of them. The hardest part of the job would be taking complaints and when customers are rude with you, I have a lot of customer service experience so most of the time I know how to deal with angry customers and always stay calm. The most enjoyable part of the job is learning and the pleasant customers. They mean a lot to me and if they're happy then I am happy.

mornings were busy with check outs and helping with continental breakfast which made your day pass but quickly. I learned allot about the town and what it offers for tourists. I got to see what a career in hospitality and tourism would like if I wish to pursue this.

A typical day on the job requires an full smile all day, which I was glad to do, no doubt. A typical day included booking reservations, calling to confirm reservations, sending out e-mails, servicing guests in the hotel. As a front desk agent, it comes down to you to make decisions while the bosses are out. It's hard to pinpoint what you learn. It's an expedited learning curve into hospitality and customer service. Each encounter is different. Most enjoyable part of the job were the people. My co-workers, and the guests. It's a great form of informal networking and you learn so much about others while learning about yourself.

the work was ok as far as customer service goes the front desk manager was good, the hotel manager not so much kinda sucked working basically every weekend

A day at the hotel could always turn out different. One day could be quiet and relaxing, a day to finish processing all payments or to personally check on the guest. Or the day could turn out to have everyone switching over and do check ins and check outs the entire work day. From working here I have learned how to work in a high paced atmosphere with different types of people. Learned how to deal with agitated people and solve their problems. I gained patience and communication skills. The hardest part of my day wouldnt happen every day. Only when al lcompanys transferred and everyone checked out and new people checked in while having several phone lines ringing. My most enjoyable part of my job was when guest would come thank me for the excellent and positive work i had been providing.

day starts with getting an update from co worker on her day and if there were any concerns or situations I would need to look at on my shift, and then with making the keys for the rooms rented for that night check in any early arrivals, check out late check outs. Take payment such as cash , debit or visa. make reservations, handle any guest complaints re rooms, tv's, heat/ac toilets phones are very busy with requests for reservations, cancellations, or just information.

Typical day would include answering phones, receive and forward faxes, phone calls and e-mails, prepare housekeeping reports, book reservations, check guests in and out of rooms, make key cards, handle room payments. Co workers all got along well.

I loved working there for two reasons . First you learn a lot cos its a one man show. second there is no boos around while you working so makes you more independent.

A typical day is 9 am till 3 pm, very fun and fast paced time flies, lunch breaks are always on time. co workers always nice and friendly. The hardest part of the job was not enough time to get the job done sometimes not always. The most enjoyable part was just working there.

I worked in different 5 star hotel . As a hospitaltier every time from every hotel i learnt new things . It was really great learning working with my ex- hotels and reasturants but just for the sake of my carrier growth further .

A good hotel for Algonquin College students to work at. Here you check guests in, take reservations, submit Best Western points, and attend the the requests of guests. At night you have to lock up the pool and other facilities.
