If you're a robot that will dedicate your life to the hotel, or a student working part time, you'll be fine. Otherwise, go elsewhere, the workplace ethic of the full time staff there is barely human, and the (absentee) owner's business ethic will make you question life itself. Be careful what you say to whom, it WILL be used against you. But if you're fine minding your own business and doing the daily tasks for about an hour, and spending the remaining 7 hours doing barely anything you'll be fine.Great support staff, housemen (a.k.a. janitors), maintenance people, and the housekeeping are fantastic people that you'll WANT to be friends with. Barely got to get to know the rest of the front desk staff as I basically worked alone my entire (relatively short) time there.Management disapproves of independent minded people that would rather know why certain things are done the way they are, instead of doing them blindly. Also, the Accountant/Front Desk Manager barely works during the daytime, so good luck getting feedback from the only person that can tell you if you make mistakes. Hardest part is the dead time, you'll literally sit there for hours doing nothing at times, you'll yearn for the times where 15 people show up at the same time.Best part however is when people feel valued by you due to the nature of your good service, seeing your name appear in reviews will make your day. And like mentioned above, DON'T OPEN UP TO PEOPLE WITH YOUR SAME JOB TITLE, some people actually arrive early with the specific intention to talk with management about what goes on behind their - plus...

This family run hotel is a great spot to work. The management team is amazing, trustworthy and fair. During the busy season there is a good vibe and tons of people to meet. Also, if your past job experiences allow, you can help out in different departments of the hotel.

I worked here for 6 months and the owner of the hotel is not at all a hood employer. I would not recommend anyone to work here. None of the employees were happy and left the job. Every month they hire new employees and fire them in next 2-3 months, they like to take salaries of their employees as well

not my favourite job. there were long hours, however this was not the location, micro-management and did not provide breaks. not this location!!!!!!!

If you are looking for something where you talk to people everyday, this is the place for you. You get to know most guest that stay weekly. Management is not good, stay one thing then do another thing. Will lie right to your face.

The guests and most other staff made going to work and doing the job enjoyable. The owner is terrible to work for and the staff turnover is terribly high. Do not leave another job to work here.

The staff at this hotel when I was working there were amazing. They are hardworking, but also know how to have fun at the same time. The management was very knowledgeable, and professional, while also being friendly and caring to all staff. However, the hotel itself is not very busy, which means you better be prepared for some downtime.

Pretty sure management is running company into the ground. Nothing works and have to constantly make excuses. Website always says closed. Pool never works. Customers constantly over charged. Free breakfast and free laundry is a lie. Constantly under attack for things out of your control. Collectors calling wanting money. Multiple Employees shorted hours. Constant changing of shifts.

Front desk was very interesting. Always different challenges and meeting new people from around the world was a very great experience. We had different types of conventions or weddings and banquets in which I would be involved in organizing. Making sure all tickets were accounted for and that the overall flow of the event went smoothly. I would have to tend to complaints of the floors. For example if there were people being too rowdy I would have to politely tell them to quiet down. Make sure that there wasn't anyone in the pool area unattended to if they were under age. Replenish the sundries. Would be the one to go out and purchase sundries if the inventory was low. Emptied and balanced the parking meter. Made sure cash balanced at beginning and end of shift. All in all this was a very nice clean and safe place to work.

Management was pretty good, co workers were hard to work with sometimes but that’s okay since we don’t really have to work with them most of the time. Housekeeping management seemed to put themselves into front desk business which was unprofessional to say the least. Overall was ok.

Was a fun environment, taught me good customer service skills, co workers were friendly and fun to work with. Clean environment as well, was flexable with my schedule.

Manager hired one of her friends to work front desk who didn't have much experience, when i corrected her that you cant say room numbers out loud she got mad at me. Her friend then promoted her to supervisor and they cut my hours completely. When the union started up they said i could work housekeep as that's where i started and all i was good at. Went on later to do front desk at a different hotel and did well.

The manager is awful. She does not know how to manage a business or people. She expects her workers to go above and beyond, but does not compensate them. The turnover rate is so high because she doesn't know how to talk to her employees. Every single front desk agent that works right now is looking for a new job, even the new people. She is cheap; sometimes there is literally only one person working in the entire hotel, which is not only unsafe, but very inefficient. Front desk agents have to do dishes, laundry, maintenance, etc. Basically anything she needs done, but doesn't want to pay someone to do

Not a friendly or positive place. I was there when it opened and it was completely unorganized. we were put down and never given positive reinforcement and make to work days we requested off.

I had a great time working at best western plus Barrie. My supervisor, managers and other people who worked there were really friendly and helpful. I learned many things from there that I can carry to my future.

After few years of working as a front desk agent, I noticed most of the time the work is just procedural. But I can always encounter different types of guest. There's always a room for improvement. Management is good, the guide you in times of difficulties. Hardest part of the job is when there is a irrational guest shouting at you, blaming you for something you haven't done. Most enjoyable part is when you encounter guest who understand your situation / your job.
